Welcome, all you Freepers, to the continuing C-span soap operas about judicial nominations. "The Guiding SEARCHLIGHT, " "As the SENATE Turns, "One NOMINATION to Live" "GERIATRIC Hospital" (for all you Byrd and Lautenberg fans out there). Follow along with us, as the Dems raise the level of histrionics, bloviation, pontification, and all around bad acting to new highs, er, lows...
I think he is more worried about his constitution.
OMG! We're trying to change the rules? That is certainly news! LOL
In public speaking it is tedious reading from documents; but I must beg to indulge the practice to a limited extent. I shall read from a letter written by Mr. Jefferson in 1820, and now to be found in the seventh volume of his correspondence, at page 177. It seems he had been presented by a gentleman of the name of Jarvis with a book, or essay, or periodical, called the "Republican," and he was writing in acknowledgment of the present, and noting some of its contents. After expressing the hope that the work will produce a favorable effect upon the minds of the young, he proceeds to say:
"That it will have this tendency may be expected, and for that reason I feel an urgency to note what I deem an error in it, the more requiring notice as your opinion is strengthened by that of many others. You seem, in pages 84 and 148, to consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all constitutional questionsa very dangerous doctrine indeed, and one which would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy. Our judges are as honest as other men, and not more so. They have, with others, the same passions for party, for power, and the privilege for their corps. Their maxim is, `boni judicis est ampliare jurisdictionem; and their power the more dangerous as they are in office for life, and not responsible, as the other functionaries are, to the elective control. The Constitution has erected no such single tribunal, knowing that to whatever hands confided, with the corruptions of time and party, its members would become despots. It has more wisely made all the departments coequal and cosovereign within themselves."
Thus we see the power claimed for the Supreme Court by Judge Douglas, Mr. Jefferson holds, would reduce us to the despotism of an oligarchy.
Now, I have said no more than thisin fact, never quite so much as thisat least, I am sustained by Mr. Jefferson.
Why are we so stupid as to accept the position counter to these forefathers?
She is a Dog Lover....good!
yeah , Sheets did a "James Brown" last time,... was being taken away by his handlers, through off the cape , and was back at the microphone
Service dogs. But I'd say, yes.
"ABC radio news at noon newsbreak (right before Rush) stated the Republicans are trying to change the rules. I was shocked - SHOCKED!"
Really? Does this mean ABC already knows that the Democrats are going to Filibister? I wonder who told them? And if that is the case, why prolong this?
Well, hello---yes, you can be sure that NO spending will be done by the senators for quite a while it seems....
BTW, other news---The grenade thrown on the stage in Georgia when Bush was speaking was a LIVE grenade, not a dud like the Georgian security said it was....folks, we came close to the absolute worst thing that could have happened to this country on that day...(other than a nuke attack of course, but I am sure ya'll know what I mean)
I'm waiting for another Sheets melt-down. Got my own little Constitution book to wave back at him.
Just another case of presenting demonRAT talking points as hard news. ok, ABC, whatever
That was the first giveaway. I looked at the only other post and saw that flaming comment about Texas Supreme Court Justice Priscilla Owen.
No that's FUNNY! ROTFLOL! Are you going to preach about Haman as well?
I didn't want to even think about that, Tx. Glad that I and so many others are praying hard for W.
through=threw ,...WHEeew , ran to the window , and threw up the sash [bad sash will getya everytime]
I seriously thought he went off the deep end that day! He was totally incoherent after Frist reminded him that he promised President Bush that he would allow an up or down vote on all of his nominees....
When you said wheeling him out in a wheelchair, what flashed in MY sick mind was the picture of Anthony Hopkins in a straight jacket being wheeled out on a dolly at the Oscars that year!!! LOL
Let's resurrect the Byrd word of HAMANIZED while we're at it.
....don't even want to go there.....this country could not withstand another tragedy...(with the exception of the liberals, of course).
Every Day! For DeLay and Frist as well!
Byrd, Byrd, Byrd - Byrd is the word!
