LOVE WHOLE FOODS. I love the Austin-based boutique supermarket chain so much I find ways to go there almost every day. Sometimes I go for the Siciliano sandwich (rare roast beef, caramelized onions, Gorgonzola spread on a toasted French roll); sometimes I go for the trail mix and dried fruit bins (yogurt-covered raisins and pineapple rings). Other times I go to buy an $18 Pinot Noir on sale, so I can race home to tell my wife it was marked down to $11.99. They've got a lot of those deals.
The produce is fresh and, by demand, "organic," one of the new synonyms for "virtuous." Samples of expensive cheeses and other culinary delights make the procession up and down the aisles a gastronomic treasure hunt, and there are no Cap'n Crunch displays to impede your cart and depress your spirit along the way. With a massage therapist in the front of the store charging only a dollar a minute, the place is a veritable culinary day spa.
THE DOWNSIDE to the Whole Foods experience is that its success is driven by one of our era's more grotesque phenomena: the upwardly-mobile urban dweller, the one who wants to indulge class-conscious epicurean yearnings and save the world, too. Whole Foods is a wonderland molded to accommodate the psyche of the socially-responsible, guilt-ridden liberal--the crunchy Kucinich capitalist.
What other conceivable reason would the chain have for displaying Out magazine at the checkout stand? Even if the wishful demographic estimates of gay-rights groups don't economically justify this niche product's front-and-center placement at the point of sale. Out--with other unreadable yoga and nutritionist-approved lifestyle monthlies arrayed around it--screams: You are an open

81% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
One thing I noticed is the Kent farm always sells "organic" produce.

When I do, I sometimes wear conservative-themed t-shirts like my "Celebrate Diversity" one.
I also made a point of shopping there the weekend after Election Day in my "W - Still the President" shirt.
You should have seen some of the pinched-up, annoyed faces. LOL!!
Just because you've not seen them doesn't mean they don't exist. One doesn't have to be a vegetarian to live to a ripe old age but 'almost everyone dies betwween 75 and 85' is a stretch. Insurance companies would love you.
LOL!
Just as people don't wash their meats before seasoning them, some people don't wash their vegetables. I was mortified to see a cooking show where the cook didn't wash the meat.
LOL
They're about as reliable as peta, to whom they're waging a campaign against. I guess as long as it's NOT organically grown, then people have 'freedom' to buy it?
I love TJs too. But I cannot go to Whole Foods anymore. There is the organics/ e coli connection and then the self-righteousness of the whole experience. And ours is definitely a Mission Field -- lots of pierced/ tattooed body parts.
Some people are obsessed with buying organic foods. I buy it whenever I can but I grow my own, right in my backyard. No chemicals and no animal manure either.
Even if that is the case, it is a simple fact of life, organic or non-organic produce should always be washed before you consume it.

8 times i was off a bit
Oh, that's a good shirt....a very, very good one. I can imagine how well it'd go over here in my college town. :) I got tired of seeing the kids driving around who still have their DEFEND AMERICA-DEFEAT BUSH bumper stickers, so I got a couple for my SUV that say W=WINNER! FOUR MORE YEARS! and "PEACE...THROUGH SUPERIOR FIREPOWER!"
I love Whole Foods. Their staff looks like a tattoo convention, but you can't beat their stuff. The fish is unbeatable inland. Their breakfast blend organic coffee is heavenly. Do what you like. I'll take my produce, milk, etc., pesticide- and hormone-free for me and my family.
