I live in LA, so I am qute aware of what's going on.

But I repeat, the problem is NOT Villaraigosa's national origin, it's his membership in MEChA, leading role in the ACLU, and general support for gangs, that's the problem.

I see your point. You're saying that a conservative hispanic candidate would not be elected. While that's possible, the problem arises when you have a candidate whose liberal views clash with Hispanic values - homosexuality for instance.

Given a choice between a Mexican candidate who avidly supports same-sex marriage, and a radical non-hispanic candidate who supports immigration, it's just as likely that the Mexican population would choose the hispanic candidate, for self- serving nationalistic reasons.
