A couple of the cable channels show these base jumpers all the time. I've long wondered how they avoid getting caught on whatever it is they jumped off.

Off-topic but this reminds me of a Neal Boortz monologue where he was talking about how you couldn't say the "N-word" anymore so some listener complained that even if he didn't *say* the "N-word", just thinking it was bad enough. So Boortz claimed he was talking about Norwegians and went into a long tirade about "Norwegian" this and "Norwegian" that (i.e. Norwegians can talk about Norwegians in their music and in comedy routines but somehow it's wrong for anyone else to say "Norwegian"). I was doubled over in laughter by the time he was done. It was a great satire on PC censorship.
They have a different word for anyone who isn't successful - deceased.

Not that I condone base jumping in urban settings .... but .... if one is going to do it, do NOT, I repeat do NOT do it from a building or tower that gets progressively wider toward the ground, and has multiple oversized platforms!
Let's see. The Eiffel Tower looks like an icsolese triangle. The base is wider than the top. The man jumps off the top and expected to not hit anything on the way down? Was he a candidate for a Darwin award?

Actually, the intended spot is not original at all. More than a decade ago, there was a commercial for British Airways. Air hostess says to the people on the Eifell Tower deck "Sorry, I must fly, and jumps off the deck".
Also, Grace Jones jumped off Eiffel tower in a Bond movie.
