Atlanta Killings Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

ATLANTA - Courthouse shooting suspect Brian Nichols pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges including four shooting deaths.

A 54-count indictment has accused Nichols of murder, kidnapping, escape and other charges related to the March 11 shootings at the downtown Fulton County Courthouse. A judge and court reporter were killed inside a courtroom. Outside, a sheriff's deputy was killed and a federal agent was killed north of downtown.

Nichols, 33, was arrested in suburban Gwinnett County 26 hours after the shootings started.

He was on trial on a rape charge at the time of the shootings and allegedly overpowered a deputy, stole her gun and opened fire in the courtroom where the trial was to resume.

I think this might mean that he couldn't get a plea bargain.

But he was quoted from "Purpose Driven Life"...that makes him innocent now, doesn't it? LOL!

I'm sure Jesse Jackson will be on the scene shortly! After he stirs up a race war in LA he can return to his stompin' grounds in Atlanta.

Of course he's "not guilty"; he's an anti-2nd-Amendment gun-grabber who believes that the gun did the killing all by itself.

" WHY "alledgedly"? Weren't there a ton of witnesses".

It depends on what the meaning of "overpowered" is. Many thought the deputy could've put
up more of a fight. Yours sincerely, President B. Clinton

I know that a person has the right to put in a plea of not guilty, but, damn when you and everyone else knows for a fact that you committed the crime, you might as well just plead guilty for heaven's sake. This dipshit is making a mockery out of our judicial system by pleading not guilty. Let me guess, it was the muffin man who killed all those people.

it's too bad this guy isn't 17 or deemed retarded... I would have loved to see the courts squirm over letting him get off with life.

Since they have video of him doing the murdering, he must be going to do the insanity defense.

Look at it this way......the crime is sufficiently heinous that he wouldn't get much of a plea bargain, so that option was out. If he pled 'guilty', the most lenient judge in the world would put this guy away for life just in terms of the number and severity of his crimes.

He has the right to plead 'not guilty', and quite frankly, has nothing really to lose by doing so. Maybe he can get the case thrown out on a technicality?

I'm not advocating for the guy in anyway whatsoever. But, does he really have any other choice?

Since they have everything but a tape of him tap-dancing on the dead bodies, I suppose that plea means that he's not guilty because of his deprived childhood...not passing third grade or being passed over for the lead in the high school play. Yep, some lawyer who wants to be on TV for a few months, will paint this raping, murdering thug as the victim, as usual.
