Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick said Monday that he would write a check to cover questionable charges on his city of Detroit credit card.
The mayors announcement comes in advance of a newspaper article that is expected to detail more of the spending done with his card. That article is to be published Tuesday.
"Tomorrow I will write a check for everything that is in dispute with our credit card company. Everything, every dollar," Kilpatrick said at his Monday press briefing.
Nearly two weeks ago, word came that more than $200,000 had been charged to the mayors credit card. Charges included travel, entertainment, meals and more.
The mayor said Monday that some of the charges have already been reimbursed. He also claimed that his sister, Ayanna, repaid the city after staying in a room in New Orleans that was charged to the his city credit card.
Kilpatrick acknowledged other questionable charges that were made on the card and should not be the citys bill. He cited spa charges in Las Vegas and limo charges.
"If you have things on there like charges for spas, I pay those personally," said Kilpatrick. "We are not living it up on the city," he added.
Mayor Kilpatrick went on to say that he intends to continue to dispute a number of charges, but he did not explain why he had waited so long to write a check to cover the credit card bill.
7 Action News asked how much the mayors check would cover, but Kilpatrick said the city did not yet have a total. Charges were still being added up Monday afternoon.
I really think he's toast......
How about the $25,000 for the SUV for his wife?
You have to watch those Irish.
They're always after me lucky bling bling.
OMG. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yah. |
Makes me glad we have Dick Murphy,.... I think?
They ARE after me lucky bling bling.
Actually, it will probably be one of those cash advance checks that always come in the mail.....
.....from your credit card company!
His interest for fraud should be 25-life in prison!
He reminds me of the mayor in Robocop 2
Does anyone here know whats the deal with the FBI report on Judge Henry Saad? (other than it exists and is potentially damaging) What's in it?
Oh.
So now that sillyass fast food tax will be A-OK.
< |:/~
Heard that on WJR and saw it on local MSM.
If this is what Detroit wants, let them have it. Those blingy earrings don't help. We can't help Detroit until Detroit decides to help itself.
I guess it was just a slight oversight on their part to not mention that he is a DemocRAT.
"We are not living it up on the city," he added
Wow, that's great. Since the total charges were only $200,000 he must have been slumming it. You can't really live it up on $200K you know.
Channel 7 (local ABC-TV) is doing a nice job on the story right now. Mayor brought entire family, babysitter, on business trips. Didn't reimburse the city until over 2 years later...after the Detroit Free Press requested info about the card's expenses. His sister stayed in Las Vegas with the card when he wasn't even there. This clown is a joke. I'm still betting it's only 50-50 that he gets discarded from office. It'll probably be July before he starts heavily using the race card against the media. That tactic will work in his favor on a lot of Detroiters who may currently be on the fence.
Sure he's going to repay what he stole -- with a rubber check.
It takes a while to solicit bribes/extort $200,000.
Most voters in Detroit are older blacks. I think they'll forgive one of their own like Coleman, but not some punk ass kid.
Especially since his top rivals are also black. Kwame was called "too white" by some in his first campaign. You got McPhail and Hendrix going after him, as well as others.
