what I don't understand is that the dems say these judges are "far out of the mainstream". just who decides what is mainstream?

Ted Kennedy decides who is mainstream with the current ystem we have now. I think Ted Kennedy called owens a radical. She is so radical that she rulned for parental notification that most americans agree with.

Either we get 4 more gop senators or invoke the nuclear option. If neither happens just move harry reid and ted kennedy into the west wing.

Mostly the dems and the media.

I can't for the life of me remember who said it, but it had to do with what the media thought, the quote was something to the effect of...

"The democratic party is the center, the voters are to the right of center and the republicans are to the far right".

In essence, the dems think the voters themselves are outside of the mainstream.

Look at mostly liberal boards, and its clear they are really angry with the voters. Those who can't accept that the voters are not liberals, are the ones who push diebold conspiracy talk.

It's subjective, of course. This country, for the last couple decades, has traditionally run in a bell-curve shape, the center coming out slightly in favor of the conservative position. I would say that the position of moderate conservatives are the mainstream. But that's just me.
