That's the thing about apologies-- they can't undo damage already done. Dead is dead.

If the story is wrong and that makes newsweek to blame for the deaths...

Does that mean that the interrogator would be responsible for the deaths if the story was true? I don't buy that.

There is limit to how responsible we can be for what crazy people do.

I'm not excusing Newsweek - if they published a false story that damaged America's credibility there ought to be a penalty... but we don't want to get in the habit of blaming Americans for when Muslims decide Mohammad has been insulted and kill each other.

Remember this story?

The Reverend Jerry Falwell, the conservative American Baptist preacher, has apologised for calling the Prophet Mohammed a "terrorist". His original remarks, broadcast last week on the US television programme 60 Minutes, sparked outrage among many Muslims around the world and set off sectarian riots in India that left at least eight dead.

It's the pattern of journalist abuse. Newsweek, while the extremest already hates America, gave them more ammo. President Bush has said we must change the hearts and minds of people in the middle east but the MSM doesn't want their hearts and minds changed because they run out of controversy. While it's people that kill some of them just don't need a gun in their hand and if they have one don't give them the ammo.

At least Falwell told the truth, Muhammad was a terrorists, in addition to being a pedophile, rapists, murderer, etc..

Newsweek lied. I am not overly concerned that a bunch of these Islamic nuts killed each other. If that is the case, no one yet has said who was killed, were they all Muslims or the target of Muslims. How many Americans serving in Afghanistan or Iraq are at threat now because some other Muslim nut will decide this is good reason to get revenge for a perceived slight?

I would back up and wonder if the stories about Abu Gharib and all these interrogation stories also aren't made up.

The MSM has done everything to make this administration look bad. Between Rathergate and now this, it is impossible to now believe that the MSM is telling the truth about anything.

I agree to an extent. Newsweek, though, bears a burden of responsibility here. It's internationally read, and their journalists are supposed to be professional-- reliable and factual. If Newsweek had done its job, none of this would have happened. Period.
