Medical records from Mexico keep kidnapping case stalled
Illegible medical records from Mexico prompted three men accused of a botched and deadly kidnapping to back out of Friday morning plea agreement.
A trial for Romeo Rosales, Enrique Rodriguez and Santos Reyes has remained stalled for the past three months while both sides waited for Mexican medical records.
According to court records, the three men and a fourth suspect, Tracey Camero, 29, are charged with the Aug. 24, 2004 murder during a botched kidnapping of Matamoros resident Amancio Piñales Garcia.
A member of the group allegedly shot Piñales in the leg as they kidnapped him off East Avenue in Brownsville.
The group allegedly took Piñales to Valle Hermoso, Mexico and planned to hold him for ransom, but he died from excessive bleeding at a Rio Bravo hospital.
Prosecutors said they recently received Mexican medical records, but told The Brownsville Herald they were illegible and will now have to wait for a better set to arrive.
Rosales, Rodriguez and Reyes appeared in the 197th state District Court Friday morning and had signed plea agreements, but backed out at the last minute based on reservations about those records.
Camero remains at large, but the three others are expected to go to trial on June 13.
Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to call Brownsville Crime Stoppers at (956) 546-TIPS.

Please FReepmail me if you want on or off this South Texas/Mexico ping list.
I would certainly hope that if and when the legible records arrive no further deals are offered and the Prosecution hammers them as hard as it can.
