Harry Reid Behind Probing of Judges?
The National Ledger ^ | May 15, 2005 | Robert Novak

Posted on 05/15/2005 9:27:01 PM PDT by Coastal

WASHINGTON -- On May 5, the U.S. Judicial Conference in Washington received a request from a man named Mike Rice from Oakland, Calif., for the financial disclosure records of U.S. Appeals Court Judge Edith Jones [5th Circuit] of Houston. A 20-year veteran on the bench, Jones is a perennial possibility for the U.S. Supreme Court. The demand for her personal records is part of a major intelligence raid preceding momentous confirmation fights in the Senate.

Jones was not alone as a target, and Rice is not just a nosy citizen. He and Craig Varoga, a former aide to Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, are partners in a California political consulting firm. Their May 5 petition requested financial information on 30 appellate judges in all but one of the country's judicial circuits, including nine widely mentioned Supreme Court possibilities. Varoga & Rice's client: NARAL Pro-Choice America.

What an unfortunate headline...(shudder)

Harry Reid needs to slurp his tapioca and go back to his room to change his Depends and get ready for shuffleboard, the blithering old coot. "I want to grow up to be just like you"? OK, kid, wait 90 years and don't take care of your brain, it'll happen.

Something is very very wrong with Harry Reid, I have watched him for years and in the past two years this man has turned into a raving maniac. I wonder if he isn't being squeezed by the far left lunatics who want to ruin this country. Harry Reid used to be a mild mannered man that was against abortion. Something is very wrong

Well, if nothing else, the judges know full well now that the privacy of a person's records is a myth.

Edith Jones was reported to be the nominee in 1991 if the Clarence Thomas nomination failed in the Senate. From what I remember she is a strong conservative.

Nobody can recall any previous mass request for such disclosures by federal judges. This intelligence raid is financed by the abortion lobby

The baby killers are behind it.
Democrats are the abortion and homosexual party. It's their only source of money (besides the communist Chinese).

Something is very wrong

It sounds like they've got something big on him. Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll finally crack.
It seems as though Kennedy is losing his mind, but it could just be the booze.
Al Gore is gone. His mind is toasted.
Howard Dean? Coo coo! Coo coo!

I wonder how bad off the democrats really are. My guess is they've totally lost the voters, because they've made such a mess out of our country with their insane policies. They NEED judges to dictate. It's all they have left.

Frist had better do all he can to get decent judges on the bench. I don't care, and by the way the democrats are behaving - no one else does either - what Frist has to do to get the job done.

Frist is doing all he can, it is not his fault, rino's are immovable.

Snowe, chafee, collins, mccain, hagel, spector, warner, murkowski, lugar,

This party is infested with rino's. We need a wholesale clean-up.

There is no suspense to the nuclear option vote, we have no chance of getting 50 votes to get bush's judges approved.

Dems and rino's are the majority. Bill Frist is the leader of the minority.

Just take a look at who is leading the Democrats these days and you have to wonder what could they be thinking. Howard Dean is a loose cannon and he will continue to put his foot in his mouth until the day he is replaced as the DNC Chair.

Nancy Pelosi is nothing but a low class flame thrower who has nothing to offer, no ideas, no suggestions, no civility and not a single discernible thought.

Harry Reid has devolved into a left wing nutjob that spends his days digging up dirt on Judges and calling The President of the united States a loser in front of school kids.

This is a Party that is imploding, they are coming apart at the seems and they want a scandal on this President so bad that they're willing to manufacture them. The end is near for these losers, cooler heads in the democrat Party will split from them and it will be decades before anybody on the left is electable

Edith would be fillabustered by pos harry reid.

We would get 55 votes plus ben nelson for cloture leaving us at 56 and 4 votes short.

Harry Reid said Bush should nominate supreme court justices in the mold of david souter and sandra day o'conner not in the mold of clarence thomas or scalia.

John Mccain has the nerve to say that the nuclear option could be used against us.up a

Earth to John Mccain republicans confirmed ruth ginsberg 96-3 if you weren't going to use a fillabuster then the republicans will never use it.

Miguel Estrada a great judicial nominee can't get 60 votes but Ginsberg gets 96 votes.

These rino's are undercutting frist and bush, after the nuclear option vote harry reid and ted kennedy will call all the shots on judges. Bush will have to get their approval. The only reliable dem left to defy harry reid on cloture is ben nelson leaving us 4 votes short of breaking up a fillabuster. Harry Reid will be like the de=facto president when it comes to judicial nominees.

Time to throw snowe, collins, mccain, hagel, spector, chafee out of the party. They like voting with democrats so much take a hike and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I wonder how bad off the democrats really are. My guess is they've totally lost the voters, because they've made such a mess out of our country with their insane policies. They NEED judges to dictate. It's all they have left.

It's hard to tell how bad off they really are. The Republicans seem to have no traction even when they win, and if the Democrats are deigned to have lost the last three elections, which they have (including the midterm), you'd never know it by reading the left wing papers and watching the left wing news.

They can't win legislatively, even losing on HillaryCare while X42 was in office (due to the Pubbies win in 1994), Bubba never received as much as 50% of the vote either time he won, and their losses keep mounting. So, what the Left cannot legislate, they must litigate.

A thought: with all of these "reversals" by these courts, from lower to the Supreme to the 9th Circus Court of Appeals, do you ever feel like saying "what the hell am I voting for, if that for which I vote is always overturned?" Pretty soon, the Constitution itself will be ruled unconstitutional...to whom would you appeal?

Perhaps that is what the Left wants? To so discourage conservatives/Republicans that they/we will stop voting, stop trying, just throw up their/our hands and say "(Bleep) it, it's no longer worth it to vote." Be honest; I've thought it. If we do that, then they really will win.

To quote British Prime Minister Tony Blair, "It is worth the fight; now let's get out there and do it."
