I see things much the same way. My Mother did live alone for awhile, while me and my sister lived in those apartments, but NO ONE was really happy.Me and my sister hated apartment life... no privacy, no security, having to have the air on in the WINTER, because it was so hot, with the "free" heat, being woke up at 2:00 am, by loud music or arguing from the apartment above, having my vehicle towed away, for a flat tire the NIGHT it went flat... and so on... NOW-- with the three of us together I will NOT say everything goes perfectly smooth, but we get along pretty well. At least, we all agree on most of the big things. On lesser important things, like decorating the house, etc, for the most part, I left that up to my mother and sister(I admit, if it were up to me, the walls would probably be blank, instead of little plates and plaques ans such on the walls). BUT--one area, were we DO clash, is my collecting hobby. My sister would LOVE to toss all of my old stuff out, and put more knickknack junk in its place. And, on that note, Nowhere Man...

I was away for awhile tonight. Had to go on ANOTHER tv-run, the SECOND in 2 days!! This time, it was another Rca, a ctc-25xa, from 1967. this is a rectangular set, with a tuning window that looks at first glance like an LCD display or such(it just has normal dials behind it.)

The set is in good shape, with a big mark on the top, where some dingbat left a plant or something on it, for many years. Otherwise, it looks quite good. AND-- it WORKS!! After careful checking, and slow-start with the HO output tube unhooked, and checking the cage(all is well inside,) I fired her up. GOOD tube! The CRT has been replaced sometime in the past, looks like a rere-earth or matrix type in it now. NO cataracts at all. I had a Dayton station on for about 10 minutes or so, then, checked the fly, to see if it was getting hot. NO, it was COOL!! After about 20 minutes-- the fly was only barely lukewarm.. WONDERFUL news!! GOOD color, all 3 guns strong, . The only problems I could see on the nearly 40- year old set, -- the VHF tuner seems to be a little messed up, in the fine tuning knob. And, the purity is off a little, along with a little convergence error. And there is a VERY slight ripple in the picture-- I'm sure a cap or two in the PS could use changing.

BUT hey, the price was right. FREE!! Saved another one from a crushing burial. What a weekend, TWO old Tv's in 2 days!! a roundie ctc-16 combo from '65, and now a ctc25, from '67!! And BTW-- the guy who turned me on to both of the sets,(after allowing me to lose a ctc5 AND 7 last year) is a member of the Dayton radio club, and is about ten years older than me, at 47, and HE lives at home, too, and in his PARENTS house, not one he is half-paying for. He has NO intention of leaving, and does NOT plan to ever marry. (not worth the trouble, he states).

I might geek some people out, looks like we are turning this into Audio Karma II. B-)

Yeah, "Wimmins" don't understand our hobby. >B-D (Devilish grin) I have a load of stuff myself, a Panasonic RA-6500 Stereo/Cassette Receiver, it's a nice unit, a JVC JIL-S100 Stereo Receiver, a Sherwood 9 vacuum tube amplifier from 1964, a Sony reel-to-reel Tapecorder 600 also from 1964, a 1970 Zenith Chromacolor 23" color TV set (our first color TV we got in 1971, still have it) and assorted radio equipment, amateur and even a World War II era BC-221 frequency meter and a Ryder Channelizer TV test equipment with 4 tuning eyes on the front. I also have a portable tube tester and a KLH Laboratories KLH-21 FM only radio (1967). I'd like to find a place in the living room for it so when I turn the TV off, I could listen to Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Rush or Michael Savage on it. B-)

Sorry about you losing the CTC-5 and 7 roundies, those would be a cool treasure haul but any roundie will do for me. B-) Still you ought to be proud with what you hauled in.

Yeah, that reminds me, I know a local amateur radio operator, I go on 2 meters, he's like 50 and still lives at home, he does things for his mom like put a new exhaust system on her Jeep Cherokee and so on. He's very knowledgible, born again Christian, we had lots of talks on everything from politics to old computers to whatever. I've been so busy, I haven't been on the air for a while, I might fire up 2 meters soon, I'm been chomping at the bit. B-)
