NEW YORK A trial balloon for a Cheney for President run in 2008 is being launched by a surprising source, Washington Post star reporter (and White House insider) Bob Woodward.
Some critics claim that Dick Cheney has already been president for five years, so why should he go to the trouble of seeking the office (again) in 2008? But Woodward, appearing on Chris Matthews' NBC talk show on Sunday, labeled Vice President Cheney a serious dark horse candidate. He said that with "a number of people" going for the GOP nomination, a guy named George Bush might come out and say What about Dick?"
Woodward observed that "there's a serious vacuum right now," with Senators Frist, Brownback, and Allen leading the field, some say.
There may be a precedent for this. Cheney worked behind the scenes to gain the VP nod in 2000 -- put in charge of finding a suitable candidate he ended up suggesting himself.
I don't think it's real.
Woodward is a joke. He is just throwing this out to hear himself speak and hurt the Republicans.
Bob Dole redux....
Not a chance of being elected...he does not "connect" like Bush...
The next serious media deployment will be "It's the Day of The Kirby".
Now lets move on to more serious issues.....
I think for Bush to bring someone else in as VP would be very transparent and could backfire, unless Cheney's health problems were absolutely undeniable. But even if that happened, the pressure would be for Bush to bring in a "seasoned veteran" with no future aspiration, otherwise there would just be another 'Rat filibuster in the senate. In 1973, there was a lot of talk about Nixon naming Reagan to replace Agnew, but the 'Rats made it clear they wouldn't go for it. Also, there would be a lot of infighting among the GOP about Bush "playing favorites," which second term presidents traditionally don't do.
Donald H. Rumsfeld would be OK in my book, too.
Sounds better than Comrad President for life, Dear Leader Hillery!
If only it were true...
"Some critics claim that Dick Cheney has already been president for five years"
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I get confused trying to follow leftist thought, first they say Rove runs things now they say its Cheney.
Bush never lied about WMDs because he was merely the puppet of Cheney and Halliburton and because Rove made him say it. So if you only lie because someone told you to, it really isn't as big of a deal....especially since Bush is so dumb that he doesn't even know what a WMD is. That means he didn't really understand that he was telling a lie, because he didn't know what he was lying about. /sarcasm (using the left's relativism)
"Bob Dole's name and said that at least Bob Dole had the "integrity" to step down when he was running for President, instead of "using" his postition to campaign..."
John Kerry NEVER stepped down.......
Just wait, he will be a laughing stock before/during the Dem primaries. This guy's career is so over, he just doesn't even understand yet...the Hitlery propaganda machine will torpedo him.
I believe it will be Cheney/Rice.
posted before I saw your suspicion.
I think you are right.
bttt.
that question was for a reply to a thread I was reading earlier this mornong. I have no idea why it popped up now.
He would get my vote!!!!
Hasn't Hillery served her two terms as president? IIRC Bubba Bill said they were a package deal, 2 for 1.
Must have been a slow news week and Matthews needed a little chedda'.
Total fabrication...
with the obligatory smear...
Some critics claim that Dick Cheney has already been president for five years, so why should he go to the trouble of seeking the office (again) in 2008?
Hmmmm.....I'd like to see a CHENEY/CHENEY ticket......Lynn could be his VP, then step in a year or two into the term when her husband steps aside, for "health" issues.....and then, Lynn can appoint the SEC of STATE, Rice as HER VP!
I like Rumsfeld/Bolton. Twist 'em and crush 'em. Folks would be pinin' for W "big time" after a couple of years of that!
