(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman)
George Iacovou, Foreign Minister of Cyprus, will arrive in Israel tonight (Sunday, May 15) for an official visit (May 15-17) as the guest of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Silvan Shalom. In addition to meeting with his Israeli counterpart, the visiting foreign minister will meet with President Moshe Katsav, Vice Premier Shimon Peres, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Commerce Ehud Olmert, and opposition leader Yosef (Tomi) Lapid. Talks will be held on the subject of the peace process and other regional and international topics. The visit is expected to further promote the excellent friendly relations existing between the two countries. This is Mr. Iacovou's first visit to Israel.Cypriot FM Iacovou to visit Israel

Therein lies the question.
The southern part is going to go "eu" since they are members. The northern part is essentially a poorer version of North Korea, only they have the Cypriot copper mines to "sell" copper to turkey who sells it to everyone else.
I am aware of the division of Cyprus. I had hoped the rapprochement between Turkey and Greece would have led to peace talks and eventually reunification. I guess I was dreaming.
I think the plan was doomed to failure because it was Kofi Annan's plan and then Colin Powel stepped in and told the Greek Cypriots had no choice and HAD to accept the UN dictated lopsided plan.
They were trying to get reunification on a deadline.
