1. Indiana's Rep. Mike Pence Touted as Presidential Candidate
We hear that a fast-rising member of Congress is being touted by some influential conservative leaders as a possible presidential candidate for the 2008 race.
Grassroots leaders, dismayed that no Republican candidate has emerged who strongly advocates the pro-life position, are taking a careful look at Congressman Mike Pence, who represents Indiana's 6th Congressional
Despite being in only his second term in the House, Rep. Pence, 46, is already a member of the House GOP leadership, serving as deputy whip, and in his first term was named to chair a subcommittee, only the fifth freshman representative to achieve that feat in 50 years.
In September 2004, Pence was elected to serve as chairman of the prestigious Republican Study Group.
As an ardent supporter of the U.S. military and President Bush's war on terrorism, Rep. Pence accompanied Indiana Congressman Dan Burton and a small congressional delegation in February of 2004 to visit troops serving in Iraq.
The delegation met with Ambassador Paul Bremer and Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez to receive a briefing on Iraq's transition to democracy, and talked with Iraqi citizens adjusting to life in a free Iraq.
Following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C., Rep. Pence was appointed to the House Judiciary Committee, where he serves on the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security. Pence participated in drafting the Patriot Act and legislation creating the Department of Homeland Security.
Pence, a former talk radio host, and his wife, Karen, have three children and reside in Columbus, Ind. When Congress is in session, the Pence family lives in Arlington, Va.
He describes himself as "a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order
Isn't this great?
Count this Jewish libertarian firmly in the Pence camp.

He needs to dye his hair first.
His hair probably went gray from taking RINOs at their word until he learned better.
Make sure you let me know where I can send money when the time comes.
I think he has the expierenced/youth look.He looks old and young at the same time.
A congressman is not going to get elected to the presidency any time soon -- ask Dick Gephardt, who was at least the House Minority leader for a while.
I agree, but this is how they start building name recognition and maybe garner enough momentum to get on a faster track.
Not to burst your bubble, but the source is Newsmax. Take it with a grain of salt.
Not to mention we're still 3.5 years away from the election...
Yes,we need to keep our party the party of Reagan.Pence will run on and implement a Reagan platform. Our party must be a conservative party.
From everything I know before the article came out, this article is 100% accurate. The right is not happy with the current list of names.A lot will happen in the next two years.
Before everyone pounds me about Rudy and his liberal social positions, I would offer three thoughts..
1. Would you rather have Rudy or Hillary in the WH?
2. If/when Bush finally gets his court appointments, especially three SC justices confirmed..the couirts will pretty much be OK..Rudy couldn't do to much harm there..
3. Pence in the VP slot would be a comfort..
Pence is from the Midwest. That is a plus. But can he deliver IN to the GOP, should Evan Bayh be on the RAT ticket? If Pence can find an answer to that question, then he could very well find a way to the GOP ticket in 2008.
At the moment, I would choose Mrs. Clinton.
"2. If/when Bush finally gets his court appointments, especially three SC justices confirmed..the couirts will pretty much be OK..Rudy couldn't do to much harm there.. "
Neither could Mrs. Clinton.
" 3. Pence in the VP slot would be a comfort.."
I find his role in Homeland Security and the Patriot Acts discomforting (as well as the National ID amendments). Just a continuation of the Administration's war on American Citizens with no real effort to address Border Security; illegal aliens inside the US; and the nature of the true enemy--militant religious Mohammadans.
And, where does this guy (Pence) stand on Border security? What is his position on having US troops scattered all over the Globe in areas with no direct connection to real US interests? What would he do to kick illegals out? How would he propose the US should defend itself against the Mohammadans? Where does he stand on conscription? The United Nations? The new world order? And does he rate balancing the budget as a priority and if so how would he achieve it?
