There are books on how the final episodes ran (VII-IX). The big concept is that even though the evil emperor was killed, the entire imperial nation was not defeated. Democracy did not come. Luke restarts the Jedi Academy. The evil that the evil emperor held back is released (as well as many of his students). Its not as dramatic as episodes IV-VI.
With the retrocontinuity though, Lea would also become a jedi (first female?).
Perhaps Luke would also surrender to the dark side.
The stories are weak weak weak because they all focus on a single family that somehow control the fate of the entire universe. And conveniently every one of them meets up with the same counterparts again and again.
Existence is not that small. A space opera like this needed a bigger cast of supporting roles.
