With Israel, didn't they experiment with women in combat during the 1948 war, and after deeming it to be a huge mistake, change course and keep women out of frontline combat units for then next 50+ yrs; so that, despite incorrect popular conception, women did not serve in their combat units in the subsequent wars and uprisings?

But didn't Israel just reverse course yet again a yr or so ago? I thought I had read where women now can serve in these combat units, but obviously there has been none of the large scale combat that the all-male forces faced post 1948.

I understand that one of the most compelling reasons the IDF dropped women in combat was that Arab's put up stiffer resistance when they were facing women.

>> With Israel, didn't they experiment with women in combat during the 1948 war, and after deeming it to be a huge mistake,

This is from memory, so please don't hammer me too bad.

I believe Israel used females in combat (through sheer necessity) until the 70's. Arab fighters would sacrifice countless lives to capture a live female Israeli souldier (soldier in English). They would then torture her within earshot (or on the radio frequency} of their opponent, and machine gun them down as they attempted multiple irrational suicide assaults to free her. Command and control was broken down completely at the unit level, and many good fighters were lost because they became irrational.

They may have (out of sheer necessity) because their forces are continually proven so superior that the likelihood of these disasters are within acceptable limits.

It is still a bad idea that goes completely against human nature and the nature of civilization. Just like gay marriage, it is an attempt by the left to breach the walls of civilization and cause collapse.
