Reid should resign. If a Republican did this, calls for resignation would be all over the papers and the Sunday TV chatter.
I honestly believe that this WILL be the chatter on the Sunday talk shows. Reid just LOOKS stupid enough to have said what he said in err. He really did it on purpose to plant the seed that there is something shady in that good man's file and nobody can legally refute it. He knew it would make news. IMHO, Reid isn't stupid. He's evil.
