Washington -- Sen. Barbara Boxer of California has erected a roadblock against John Bolton, President Bush's embattled nominee for U.N. ambassador, in a fight with the administration over access to documents.

Boxer said Friday she would lift her hold on the nomination if the administration provided the additional information she was seeking. Boxer took her action to slow Bolton's nomination after the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday sent Bolton's name to the full Senate without a recommendation

Boxer is the democrats' designated ball buster. Let's hope Frist is ready for next week.

This would appear to be another Senate "rule" that can be changed by majority vote of the Senate. If the filibuster rule can be changed, then the hold rule can be changed.

I was glad to read this in the article: "Boxer's move, which the Republican Senate majority could overturn by getting 51 votes in favor of a motion to proceed despite her hold, could further raise the partisan temperature in a body already fighting over Republican efforts to curb the Democratic minority's power to filibuster Bush's judicial nominees."

So at least it's not a terminal hold. And you catch the partisanship of the reporter? He writes the republicans thwarting Boxer's hold would be responsible for raising the partisan temperature!! GRRRRR

Another page out of the Democrat playbook. Ask for something to which they are in no way entitled, then complain when it is not produced.

Frist will prove himself glorious or gutless next week. Based on his past performance, I'm not optimistic.

there's not much information here, nor in the media about why the democrats want to stop bolton so badly, other than holding up the president of the united states.

one issue is bolton's views on cuba.

Boxer's hold is bogus. Even if she got the papers, she or another Democrat would say it's not enough or the wrong papers, just to drag this on and on.

Bolton is a test case. If the Republicans in the Senate can't pass him, no Bush appointee or law he wants will pass.

The canine Boxer's hold don't mean squat if 51 votes can break it.

If the "supermajority" 60-senator cloture rule is problematic, what the heck is this one Senator "hold" nonsense? At least this one isn't secret but we have plenty of cases in the recent past where no one could explain why there was a hold. Jeez, subject Boxer to a habeas corpus hearing or something on her hold. This is ridiculous.

Barbara Boxer is the living embodiment of the old cliche'.

"Ignorance is Bliss"

Every time I hear her speak it confirms to me that power without principle is the most dangerous combination.

"W" ought to announce to the world (and the Senate), that Bolton is IT. That no further documentation will be forthcoming. That no other nominee will go before the Senate for the position if Bolton is defeated. That the US will NOT pay dues or any monies owed to the UN until an Ambassador is passed on. Oh, yeah, and request an ethics violation investigation of Boxer's and Pelosi's junkets. Time for a little hardball.

I'll give Frist the benefit of the doubt. Until now, he has been creating an undeniable record of attempts to reach an acceptable non-nuclear solution with Reid. I think his last offer was quite reasonable--give up the filibuster and committee holds, all judicial nominees are guaranteed a vote on the floor. Share the pain equally.

Now that Reid has refused to act in god faith, Frist is free to deploy the Enola Gay II without seeming precipitous, reducing the potential for a shut down by the democrats.

And I don't know how much familiarity you have with professional stereotypes, but prominent heart transplant surgeons are not noted for their lack of intellegence, egos, willingness to act, or cojones. You've heard the old joke: "What's the difference between a surgeon and God?...God doesn't think he's a surgeon". I'm hoping we see the other side of Clark Kent from the good doctor.
