An investigating officer has recommended that the Marine Corps drop murder charges against 2nd Lt. Ilario Pantano, who shot to death two Iraqi insurgents a year ago during a raid on an insurgent hideout in the "Triangle of Death."
The 16-page report from Lt. Col. Mark E. Winn castigates as unreliable the prosecution's chief witness, Sgt. Daniel L. Coburn, whom Lt. Pantano had removed as squad leader weeks before the April 15, 2004 shooting.
"The government was not able to produce credible evidence or testimony that the killings were premeditated," Col. Winn wrote in his May 12 report, a copy of which was obtained today by The Washington Times.

Finally some one who knows what war is supposed to be like.
Thank God! Semper Fi...
PC Horsesh!t.
I hope they finally let this poor man go and start focusing on catching some illegal aliens for a change.
I hope they finally let this poor man go...

... and I hope they give this man the medals that he deserves.
Boy I hope this info is accurate. I can't help but wonder if either of those clowns the gentle Marine shot may have been the ones that pushed a button to trigger a car rigged with explosives last year in Latifiyah that went off about a 100 feet from my nephew last July.
Please explain, thanks.
Never mind. I saw your next post, thanks.
Read on. Finger check.
Coburn should do time, and get a DD. Pantano deserves a medal.
Hallelujah!
Amen, amen and AMEN!
This is GREAT news!
Nope--I think it is keeping with the spirit of the Corp:
"So, what took you so many rounds to put these guys down?"
Long overdue.
Charging Lt. Pentano with "murder" for making a crucial decision in a tense and deadly battlefield enviroment (to kill a wounded terrorist rather than risk the possibility of any further losses among his company) was always utter nonsense.
Thank God this Col. Winn had sense enough to end this witch-hunt before it can destroy any more of this brave young soldier's life.
They BETTER DROP THESE CHARGES! Pantano is a HERO!! Who the hell wants to sign up to fight for this nation when THEY CAN BE IMPRISIONED FOR SIMPLY KILLING THE ENEMY?
It gets even worse, a couple months ago someone from the military called into the Savage Nation (he was stationed here in the US). They said that their commanding officers specifically told them that they could NOT TALK about the Pantano case and NOT to listen to the Savage Nation (because he had been hammering on the Pantano case for weeks).
