Excuse me - my list was in no particular order........but to make you feel better, I will list the causes of American products now being made over seas..:
1: Over regulation - most thanks to enviro whackos
2: Onerous taxes - thanks to taxers who don't believe in cutting spending and their constituants who are all for taxing the other guy
3: Unions - supported by both of the above.
I'm not anti-union - I truly believe they have a place
I'll bet you never got overtime (except on Sunday and four Holidays/year) (which your state must have forced as they only give $1.00 elsewhere.
No, we never get overtime.
We call it "out of hours". That is one of the ways Wal-Mart keeps costs down.
That is why they are the the best.
Who in their right mind would actually want to unionize? Peanuts is the norm, but there's all the other stuff that goes along with it. Can you imagine having to continue working "off the clock", or get fired? I've heard way too many allegations of sex discrimination, for too many years to give that aspect a lot of credence(I'm female, btw).
Minimum wage, with the possibility of advancement, and decent benefits is the American way. I know a few people who try and support families on minimum wage, because they couldn't find a job that paid more(after their decent job went byebye). That brings in the good ol' government to help out. It's not just minimum wage, it's the fact that rental prices are just insane. Then there's basics, like fixing your clunker and keeping it running good enough to pass smog, etc. No cell phones, cable, or goodies.
I will not dispute your experiences........mine have been for the most part positive. I've never shopped Walmart in California, only Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
Where I live now, I generally get great and pleasant service regarless of where I shop, including Walmart. My husband has had great experience shopping Big Lots in Maryland, but mine were lousy in Delaware.
As I said, much of it is probably where one lives, and so broadbrushing one company, such as you did on walmart, is not a real good thing to do.
My last mission to the beer store showed that 70-80% of the beer sold there was imported. I thought about posting a thread on the subject, but decided to drink instead.
Just show up on time, do what you can and you will advance and get raises.
I love Wal-Mart.
Dear superiorslots,
I really couldn't care less about your anecdotal information.
The anti-Wal-Mart article that anchors this thread states that Wal-Mart purchases about one-eighth of Chinese imports.
Do the math.

Dear Toddsterpatriot,
Well, I've seen a lot of the anti-Wal-Mart "math" in these threads before.
I'm ambivalent about Wal-Mart. There's stuff about 'em I like, and stuff about 'em I feel kinda funny.
That doesn't give folks the license to make it up as they go along, or to use statistics in deceptive ways.
As for one person's anecdotal "Wal-Mart missions," well, you know... * chuckle *. What can I say?

I know other companies sell made in chia products. However Walmart has made an art of it and they have a track record of forcing companies to set up fatories overseas to get the price down lower or loose the contract.

I'll bet you a $1000 too that 65-75% of the items on WM shelves are made in or say assembled in china. Toddsterpatriot won't take me up on it even after i told him I would give him $1000 + his travel expenses. I've asked him many times to come visit my local store but he will not.
My whole beef about WM is they are pulling the sheets over peoples eyes over the actual figures on imports from china.
Quote: I will stop shopping Wal-Mart if they sell the abortion pill.
Wonder how many forced abortions china forces on their people through the one child policy each year???
Very nice posting. Thank you!
They don't "force" anyone to open a factory in China. The price they require may only be possible with a factory in China but since this article showed that WalMart buys less than $25 billion from China(out of over $200 billion total purchases), it is possible to sell to WalMart without moving production to China.
So, how do you want to pay me the money you owe?
They're entitled to their own opinions, not their own facts.
That was Target. :)

So..if you have a client that say you must lower your price x amount or we will drop you and as a result the only way you can offer a lower price to WM is by moving to a land with 50 cent per hour wages how is that not being forced?? If you don't lower your price your company will be blackballed by WM. And facts is facts WM is the largest buy of goods that companies cannot afford to loose.
Also it say "WalMart buys from China" It does not say that B&D or GE buys from china and resells to WM.
I'll take my $1000 in cash. I even gave you my private email which you have not returned.
The threshold for receiving any kind of public assistance is not low, in fact one can make a fairly decent sum of money and still qualify for a lot of government programs..I take advantage of all that I can.. If people would check out the income level of a lot of these prgrams that are available, you do not have to dumpster dive for food to survive..To receive section 8 in this area 1 person can net over 2 thous a month, lower energy bill, medical reduction on energy bill, ,lower phone bills, renters and home owners tax rebates yearly, free comodity foods, the list goes on and on,

My first trip to Cuba was in 1987; a university-sponsored sojourn to the forbidden island "behind the iron curtain." My odyssey began at the Toronto Airport as I boarded a vintage Russian-made IL 62. The plane, prohibited from flying over the U.S., headed to the Atlantic Ocean and then made a sharp right turn, depositing us in Havana's Jose Marti airport at about midnight. I looked out the window at the dimly lit terminal, expecting to see troops, perhaps statues of Lenin. What I did see was the biggest Visa Card that I had ever seen, above the words, "Welcome to Cuba." So much for communism.
as a journalist based in Costa Rica, I hiked deep into the highlands of Guatemala, looking to escape American corporate culture.
Cuba was different. Havana is one of the world's most vibrant cities, yet it didn't have a single commercial billboard. People began to travel to Cuba for the sole purpose of experiencing a landscape free of commercial clutter.
