Stunned Republicans say such a public description of a confidential FBI background report — clearly stating that it contains negative information — is, in the words of one GOP official, "deeply unethical." "He didn't reveal the contents, he just implied that something serious was there," says the Republican. "To drag this into the public debate is just totally improper."

None of the stuff in an FBI file is challenged by the accused, therefore, it is not "corroborated by adversity". The reason trials work in the United States (usually) is because the prosecutors claims are challenged.

For Harry Reid to do this, is not just deeply unethical -- it may be criminal.

Seriously.

I was talking to a lawyer friend last night and he says the same thing you do.

He was incensed by what Reid did.

Laz, my take is that the threat of these FBI files being used as blackmail threats decreases over time. Between statutes of limitations and Bush in the Oval Office (possible pardons) is it correct that the 900 Hillary files don't give her as much power as they used to?

I can't stand him. Every time I see him on TV, I change the channel. EVIL makes me sick.

He should be expelled, if the Senate rules are to be followed. But, we know how that goes.
Imagine if Strom Thurmond or Bob Packwood had done this.

Standing Rule of the Senate 29, Section 5:
"Any Senator, officer, or employee of the Senate who shall disclose the secret or confidential business or proceedings of the Senate, including the business and proceedings of the committees,
subcommittees, and offices of the Senate, shall be liable, if a Senator, to suffer expulsion from the body;
and if an officer or employee, to dismissal from the service of the Senate, and to punishment for contempt."
