It would appear that 1) none of the police officers involved is a hunter, because 2) an AR-15 firing stock .223 ammo will merely annoy large game, and 3) hunting big game with small bore ammo is illegal in most states, as a consequence.
But remember what The Brady Campaign says, the police will protect you...

You can't roller skate in a buffalo herd.

By the time all five animals were shot, at least 120 rounds had been fired, a few that hit empty houses and a nearby car, Laxson said. The first buffalo took several shots in the head and "didn't even flinch." This will turn into a big joke thread, but the above line should make any serious hunter puke.....
I would be in jail if I tired this B.S. during hunting season.

After that 100 round shoot up that hardly wounded the suspect in LA and now this fire storm, I'm beginning to doubt the intelligence of cops and police force training. They can't all be that stupid can they? I'm just an ordinary citizen and I'll bet anyone here I can drop a man or a buffalo in one shot each, even if they are in a car.

That is why SHARPS mad the BIG .50 Buffalo Rifle.
One shot, one kill.
Oh oh oh! But it's a .50! What if they hit an airplane or an armoured car.
Maybe they should have just talked nice to them!

I'll bet the buffalo were under 21 years of age. If so, we have 5 more child victims of gun violence - this time semi-automatic assault weapons. Ban all private ownership of guns.
Sorry, this is the Brady fund discussion website I'm on, isn't it?

Don't many agencies carry 12 gauge shotguns with rifled slugs in them? Those would get the job done on a Buffalo much more effectively than a .223.

The buffalo 'charged' the police? I rather doubt it. The buffalo were grazing; which is what buffalo do about 99.9% of the time. The other 0.1% of the time they make more buffalos. Pretty unlikely they would 'charge'.

POWERFUL ASSAULT WEAPSONS and it took 120 rounds to down five buffalo. These weapons are desesigned for one thing, to kill!! ;-)
To: HolgerDansk
5 rounds of 22 long rifle was all that was needed. While the police wasted a lot of ammunition, one hopes they did not destroy valuable meat as well.
