Voinovich slams Bolton but will let nomination go to full Senate

Associated Press

Republican Sen. George Voinovich of Ohio agreed on Thursday to let the contentious nomination of John Bolton as United Nations ambassador go to the full Senate for a vote. But he issued a scathing attack on Bolton.

Voinovich portrayed Bolton, now the top arms-control diplomat at the State Department, as "arrogant" and "bullying."

"John Bolton is the poster child of what someone in the diplomatic corps should not be," Voinovich said. He said Bolton would be fired if he was in private business.

"That being said, Mr. Chairman, I am not so arrogant to think that I should impose my judgment and perspective of the U.S. position in the world community on the rest of my colleagues," he added. "We owe it to the president to give Mr. Bolton an up or down vote on the floor."

He (Voinovich) said he hoped the full Senate, where Republicans hold a 55-45 majority, would reject the nomination.

"What message are we sending to the world community?" Voinovich asked.

Well isn't that big of him. I guess all the phone calls and emails must have given him reason to re-think his idiotic position but not enough to keep him from grandstanding and kissing the Dems hinies.

Let me get this straight. First he votes against Bolton after missing all the committee meetings which discussed the evidence. Then when he gets up to speed and learns that Voinovitch is "arrogant" and "bullying" he votes for him.

Once a moron, always a moron.

He's right. No company would ever, in a million years, allow a boss who yells at his underlings when they screw up.

Also.. SENATOR LUGAR:

One of the most sensationalized accusations against Secretary Bolton is that 11 years ago, he chased a woman around a Moscow hotel throwing things at her. This is problematic first because the behavior described seems so out of place. But secondly, because it has been very difficult for our staffs, despite many hours of interviews on this matter, to ascertain just what happened.

The woman, Melody Townsel, who lives in Dallas, admits that she is a liberal Democrat who worked for Mothers Opposing Bush in the last election. Ms. Townsel also told our staffs that her original accusation, contained in a letter that was made public, may have been too strong in some places. She said: “’Chasing’ may not be the best word.” What she meant was that Secretary Bolton would approach her whenever he saw her at the hotel where they were both staying because, as she describes it, she did not want to meet with him over a legal matter.

The message being sent to the world community is we are sick of being blamed for everything wrong in the world and sick of funding a corrupt UN.

Go BOLTON!

He reminds of of a High School Vice Principal we had who was tougher than nails, hated by every High Schooler while in High School, then when we grew up we realized he was RIGHT!

Wrong, Voino-face, YOU are the poster child for everything that a US Senator should not be, a whiny mealy-mouthed RINO moron.

Stupid jerk doesn't even have the courage of his convictions. If he wants the Senate to reject his nomination he could vote not to recommend him in comittee and that would be that.

Not only is he a RINO, he's a spineless RINO.

Wait, that's redundant isn't it?

Hmmmm. Some people would call that being PERSISTANT which in my world is a favorable attribute. So Bolton is guilty of being PERSISTANT as opposed to chasing her. Interesting.

First off, no more money to the NRSC. A GOP majority is apparently useless.

Next, Ohio Republicans must remove Sen. Voinovich. If I lived there I would definitely vote against him in a primary and probably vote for a Dem against him. He is unfit to represent Republicans.

Way to go, Frist and Lugar. Hope you enjoy the minority status in 2006.

"What message are we sending to the world community?" Voinovich asked.

Short answer, Senator. That you are a spineless hack, that turns on his own party and can't be trusted. That message is also sent to members of your own party and to the voting public.

I am so sick and tired of the Republican senate. So far the only one that seems to have beitzim is Santorum. The rest of them aren't worth spit.

LOL...what a crock of sh*t...He wouldn't be fired, because he would be the boss or owner! Besides, he spent his time in the private industry. Reagan was called a bully when he called out the Soviets. Diplomacy is way overrated.

He lacks the conviction to commit fully to his lack of convictions.
