Wal-Mart profit misses forecast; outlook weak
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. on Thursday reported a weaker-than-expected profit and said second-quarter results would miss Wall Street forecasts as steep energy prices and cool, wet weather cut spring sales.
Shares of Wal-Mart, which said gasoline prices would continue to curb consumer spending in the current quarter, fell 4 percent in premarket trading. The world's biggest retailer said it expects trends to improve in the second half and remained optimistic about the U.S. economy.
"Our results were not up to Wal-Mart standards," Chief Executive Officer Lee Scott said on a recorded message, citing steep oil prices and unusually cool, wet weather in parts of the United States.

This is like losing a dollar bill out of a wallet filled with $100s.
Wow, you're stupid.
More folks buying American made goods...
Geez, according to some other threads here, Walmart is the only company hiring, and that's why our employment numbers were up 274,000 last month. It looks like they hired a few too many workers -- probably should have hired only 250,000 new employees last month or so, so they'd make their unjust billions by selling Chinese goods to the sheeple while putting mom and pop shops out of business and not giving their own employees adequate healthcare.
What's wrong with Walmart?
No, if you read the article, it's more American dollars going to the Saudis.
Walmart is too big. Not much room to grow.
I only shop at sam and walmart once a month. I make a big grocery run for packaged items. Their meat and produce sucks. And you are right about there being a lot of chicom crap in the store. But one interesting point, jeans. Levis and now most wrangles are made south of the border, paricularly their shorts. But walmart faded glory denim shorts are madin the USA. Good quality too. I have one pair. When I do buy wally world I buy American.
Good for Walmart. Helping to build a strong Chinese middle class and simultaneously providing Americans with good-quality goods at very reasonable prices.
Wal Marts stock has been flat for some time. It may well be that they have reached a plateau. Opening new stores can carry you only so far.
Yet, they are building 265 new super centers in the U.S. in the coming year.
Thanks for bringing up the usually Walmart bashing before the normal weekend thread. Unions have driven out the manufacturing jobs with their wonderful demands. How's your union helping you out lately?
Straight out of the D.U. drill book.
