Seems they favor nrst individuals
What gave you that idea? Every member of the panel yesterday said they had issues with a NRST and compliance, which is the Achilles heel of the FairTax. Wright was never able to give a reasonable answer to the compliance questions.

Not that I agree with your statement - but compliance is an issue irrespective of the system. That compliance is an issue is, well, trivial.

There's more that's certain than just death and taxes ... you have to include evasion. It will be there in ANY sort of tax system that can be imagined. In fact, even the IRS admits to something like a 20-25% revenue "shortfall" due to evasion for the present income tax. In view of that fact, how is it that you believe the FairTax is, somehow, deficient in that regard?

Given the usual accuracy of government figures that probably means existing evasion is even quite a bit higher than that. It shouldn't surprise anyone the all the other panel members "had issues" with the FairTax on evasion since each was proffering a different and competing tax plan. That certainly gives no credence to any evasion issue - all those plans have them as well!

Since you seem, from your comments, to be opposed to the FairTax, what sort of tax system do you prefer (VAT, flat, other) and how does that preferred system eliminate or minimize evasion?

No matter which you prefer, please identify the exact flavor of the tax since all have several flavors "going around" and it helps any discussion if you would be specific.

"Every member of the panel yesterday said they had issues with a NRST and compliance..."

That isn't true; Senator Mack, in fact, argued in our favor on the compliance issue, if memory serves. He certainly didn't add to the concern expressed by other panelists.

More to the point, however, is that compliance is exactly where you would expect them to focus if they were convinced of the economic merits of the proposal. This is, as we have acknowledged, a MAJOR change in the way the federal government raises its revenues. A sales tax raises different compliance challenges than an income tax certainly. That does not mean that they are greater and it certainly does not mean they are insurmountable. The Commission is taking its responsibilities seriously, as well they should.

The next hearing BTW has been announced. Its subject will be the implications of the federal government no longer requiring personal tax returns, I believe. Hmmmmm .... I wonder why they would be considering that. If I were a flat taxer, I would NOT view that as an encouraging area of investigation.

Of course, I am sure that they will have panelists testifying that the federal government cannot possibly function without requiring such blatant disregard for our personal liberties. I can "almost guarantee" that YN will spin that as the death knell for the FairTax.

LOL!! Life is good (if you are a liberty loving FairTaxer)
