I've been reading through this thread and I have to say, I've been a little surprised at you. You are usually so well spoken and gentle, but there is a real harsh tone to you on this thread. I always stop and read carefully when I see your name because you are one of the most intelligent, reasonable people here. I learn much from you. This seems a little out of character though.
I understand what you are saying to an extent. The President shouldn't have to be a micro manager and there are clear procedures set up to be sure. But I don't see what would be wrong with notifying the President that these procedures had been in place. Especially since Laura and Nancy Reagan were affected.
If your wife was evacuated, along with an elderly woman who is one of our national treasures, wouldn't you get upset if you weren't informed?
What if something had happened to her and you found out later that you could have at least been able to speak to her one last time to say goodbye?
And what about the media? You know how nuts they went over My Pet Goat and those 7 minutes. Can you imagine what they would have done if he was off bike riding and didn't know what was going on before hand, when everyone else in the nation knew?
We all knew about this before the President of the United States. Doesn't that feel somehow wrong to you?
I'm conflicted about it. You and some of the others have made good arguments against interrupting his ride, but I sure can see the other side just as clearly.
I don't think he needed to DO anything, since it was all well in hand, but I would want to be informed at least if I were in his place.
