If only we could get rid of the filibuster in the Senate plus the rule that they have to vote in order to vote on issues.

"If only we could get rid of the filibuster in the Senate plus the rule that they have to vote in order to vote on issues."

The whole purpose of the cloture vote is to insure that the minority gets heard. That is a good thing, otherwise all the majority would have to do is count heads and go to the floor and call for a vote without any debate. Unfortunately, in the case of a filibuster that priveledge of being heard is abused. Senator Frist's proposal to allow 100 hours of debate on nominees would give the minority a chance to debate and allow the Senate to get their constitutionally mandated duty.

I beg to differ. The filibuster is a good thing. These weasels should just do it the way it was intended. They made an agreement years ago to forgo the real procedure and now the word filibuster takes the place of the action. They should be prepared to suffer through their actions of filibustering to make the point of their argument felt.

Sure, and we could go to pure democracy and majority rule. The Founders are spinning, as we are willing to undo the roadblocks they implemented to prevent the tyranny of majorities.
