Immediately after 911 the media was pushing for a ban of light aircraft, since they could be used for a 911 type attack.

They are useless as a battering ram, and have slightly better payload then a wheel barrel. If a Cessna 150 is a weapon, a 1969 Olds 88 is a WMD.

LOL! But couldn't they load it with something deadly? Or have I been watching too much 24?

And if this were 24, this all would have been a distraction while something more sinister was occurring.

What's their payload? I had a '65 Piper Cherokee 180 that could carry about 750 lbs not including 50 gal of fuel. Seems like 500 or so lbs of plastic explosive would make quite a bang.

Good analogy: If a Cessna 150 is a weapon, a 1969 Olds 88 is a WMD. Never plan on taking a lot of luggage with 3 people in a 150.

Exactly. Maybe it's time to post John Deakin's excellent AVweb column on that very subject (the GA aircraft being a terrible battering ram) again.
