A published report says Senator Ted Kennedy has received tax breaks on his Washington home, even though he does not qualify for the deduction.
Kennedy's staff tells the Boston Herald that the senator never applied for the tax break and apparently received it in error. A spokeswoman says Kennedy plans to reimburse the District of Columbia government for the money.
A review of tax and real estate records by the Kansas City Star found that Kennedy was one of 22 senators who took the so-called Homestead Exemption in 2003 and 2004.
But the deduction is meant only for homeowners who call D.C. their principal residence, and Kennedy remains a Massachusetts resident.
He reportedly stood to save about $7,700 this year on the tax bill for his $4.5 million dollar Washington home.
"Kennedy's staff tells the Boston Herald that the senator never applied for the tax break and apparently received it in error."
WHAT?!?!
What a load of sh-t! He would not get the tax break....unless the papers were filed for it.
The deduction has to be taken.....to get it.
"He reportedly stood to save about $7,700 this year on the tax bill for his $4.5 million dollar Washington home."
Uh huh, yeah......he is like the rest of us.....(BS!)
Other than the occasional drink and liking women.........that fat sh-t bag and I have nothing in common!
Not only are they hypocrites, but they work to keep you and me from getting the same benefits that they enjoy as our "representatives" (ie: 401k retirment benefits, exemptions, expense accts, etc). They aren't fitting representatives - heck, I live in 1 house all the time and it sure isn't a "compound" (more like the outhouse at the compound perhaps). Atleast the Bushes built their ranch house and like to go home whenever possible.
Ask ex-congressman Martin Frost.
That democrap did the same thing. He filed homestead on more than one home........
And you better believe that we North Texas republicans used it against him!!!!!
Point taken.
Besides, do any of these clowns actually do this themselves? No, they pay CPAs other types to do this for them. Which means that these agents for them must be given blanket permission to do whatever they can get away with. An ethical CPA or planner ain't going to do it either way.
Wait, I really blew it using the word "ethical" didn't I?
Different rules for these turds don't ya know!!!!
We are worrying about securing our borders? Maybe we should first be concentrating on insuring justice for the lawbreakers of DC??????
No CPA is going to risk their license to save a client $7700.00, forget unethical, that is just plain illogical. No matter who prepares the paperwork, the homeowner has to sign it.
It's OK to dream, but I think the old biddy lived the last twenty years of her life in Fla.
To the best of my knowledge, the GOP in Mass. hasn't had the b*lls to nominate a viable candidate to run against him.
Nah - I don't think so. You don't think he knew what he was signing? This congressman who is responsible for spending our tax dollars? He and his accountant knew he was not eligible for Homestead Exemption in DC. That may just be the tip of the iceberg of other "gaffes". He needs to be audited for the last ten years.
When was the last time that a gub mint agency signed you up for a tax break you didn't ask for?
I'm willing to cut him some slack on this one, $7,700 is chump change for people in his league. But an audit? After what the Clinton's did with the IRS, the list of libs that need to be audited is very lengthy. It would read as a who's who of lib causes and supporters
Ah, how do you say drunken lying car dunking a young woman drowning swimming to shore not notifying cops for 9 hours after incident while working on some alibi while having time to make 17 phone calls to buds and political heavyweights and still planning to race his sailboat the next day tax sluffing hypocrite?
BTW, I enjoyed your "about" page. One of these days I'll get around to doing mine.

I've got no love for Teddy but he's RICH... that's not enough money to steal in a tracable amount for somebody who has survived as long as he has.
