i know, all he needed was a bomb vest, get close to munitions and bye bye carrier
I used to be a civilian contractor servicing all navy ships. When out at sea they would fly you out on a chopper. When in port, I would park in a secured area in the navy yard like Philly, Groton, Passagoula, Norfolk, Charleston, etc.....Internationally it was Naples, Subec Bay, Guam, etc....But when in port, the officer at the walk onto the ship carried a 45 caliber gun in his holster. With no clip in the weapon. Absolutely mind boggling that they can't even have a single bullet on watch. It's worse than Andy treated Barney Fife.
Just your friendly local terrorist going about his business. The only thing that will help is said trespasser getting a long term in the slammer.
Heard this on the news tonight. I naturally thought of the Star Trek movie about the whales where Checkov gets caught trying to recharge radio activity on a US carrier in San Francisco. I assumed that the intruder here has doing the same thing!
I don't recall the details, but something like this happened a few months ago on another ship.
I should have added, "didn't it, or am I dreaming?".
Was that BEFORE 9/11? I could see that.....maybe. BUT post-9/11, it is reckless.............
In 25 years of wearing a uniform I never pulled any guard duty stateside or overseas with an unloaded weapon. In Germany at a sensitive post I even had a dog handler and dog at my disposal 24/7.
Our military assets are not tour guides or vacation liners. They are supposed to be in a state of military readiness. That includes security in, on, and around their bases, ships, aircraft, and structure at all times.
We sleep in cozy beds at night because rough men are willing to do violence on our behalf. It's not a part time effort.
What years? My experience was in the 80's.
Germany? I assume that you were not navy? Airforce I presume?
Good point my friend..................
Army, not Air Force. Here is my FReeper profile - http://www.freerepublic.com/~slb/
Yep, Germany in the 1980's.
