Even this liberal doesn't understand (or, at least, claims not to understand) why gun regiistration is a basic left wing belief. In has nothing to do with "sophistication," it is solely about a minority being able to more easily disarm everyone, leaving only the neocommunists with weapons.

An armed populace will be very difficult to enslave. Today's neocummunists so how the communists of yesterday walked in to the country's of Eastern Europe without much concern for armed opposition. Internal conquerors want the same easy walk.

They plan ahead and drive multiple strategies to ensure that the potential armed opposition is reduced in every way. Every rule and regulation limiting ownership of fire arms is based on a desire to tip the balance to armed revolutionaries.

While I happen to agree with you - and Lorne Gunter, at least to some extent, may as well - the mere fact that he didn't opt to voice this particular argument within this one specific Editorial hardly makes him a liberal: large or small "L".
Aside from the totalitarian ideology driving it, Canada's Gun Registry is wrong and stupid on so many other levels that a book could literally be filled enumerating and documenting them all. Given the space he had available, IMHO, Lorne did an excellent job of making the primary case that it should rightly be scrapped.

Trust me, Mr. Gunter is not a liberal on this issue. He is well aware of the facts and the work of John Lott, et. al. He just doesn't think the Canadian populace is ready for the whole truth.
