I mean it's not like it would be life threatening to wait a bit for you, your IP, and your e-mail address to be checked out by the admins before you can become a poster here at FR. I lurked for years before I finally signed up. And if I'm reading FR from somewhere I've never posted from it's not like I will die if I couldn't reply.

I don't know if user accounts can be limited to a list of specific IP addresses or not. Of course, if a user is legit, his IPs wouldn't have to be limited at all.

Most dial up accounts are not static ip #'s and many cable ones aren't either, so that wouldn't work. AOL accounts generate random ip# as well.
