Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
The Senate convened at 11:30 a.m. and adjourned at 10:13 p.m. One record vote was taken.
Next Senate meeting: Tuesday, May 24, 2005
9:45 a.m.: Proceed to Executive Session and resume consideration of the nomination of Priscilla Owen to be U.S. Circuit Judge for the Fifth Circuit.
So, are we using this as the judicial nominee thread today, or will there be a separate one like the last 4 days?
turnip truck bump, just in case!
Think we need another live thread for today??
Great analogy! I don't even know how I feel right now! I hadn't heard Harry REid's interview until this morning and it just go me even more mad....
He was gloating AT President Bush, VP Cheney, and the other REp. Senators that weren't in the Group of 14! What a jerk, and I hope he suffers for that remark, somehow!
Reid already up telling Frist what to do!!! I guess he thinks he is the leader now!!!
*shakes head*
OOOOOO-WWWWWWWEEEEEEE
Reid just isn't going to let Frist be the leader anymore---
I am glad that Frist mentioned John Bolton!!!
It is obvious that FRist is very, very angry about that "understanding" because he says he doesn't know how it is going to work...poor Frist, he just seems lost because he had it all planned, and now he is walking around with a knife in his back....OUCH!

Here's where the nine-judge figure comes from. Democrats killed three judges in the last session -- Estrada, Pickering and Kuhl -- through filibuster. Even though they have agreed to vote on Brown, Owen and Pryor, they haven't agreed on Saad, Myers and two others hanging fire. That leaves seven in the dust. In addition, Dem sources told the New York Times today that Republicans also have agreed to kill the Kavanagh and Haynes nominations, now before the Judiciary Committee. Hence, three judges survive -- a minimum of seven and maximum of nine go overboard.
Nice.

Ya-Hooty---Frist just said that the Constitutional Option is still on the table...
You know, Reid wanted to viciate the cloture vote today--and Frist woulnd't do it...I bet Reid wanted not to have it because when cloture is agreed to, it just is proof that in this case REid lost....
I can tell that this "Memoranum of Understanding" is a four letter word, in Frist's mind....
Plans, on voting on Brown, and Pryor by the end of this week.....Griffin, McKeeg, others should get votes...
Opportunity to return to precedents of 200 years of up or down votes...cautiously optomistic...
Whoa---REid just got up and said that he is in favor of the "Memorandum of Understanding" BECAUSE IT TAKES THE NUKE OPTION OUT OF THE PICTURE FOREVER...
IOW, he just totally threw it back in Frist's face that HE says there will be no nuke option after Frist said that the option is on the table...
Isn't that what has been happening for the last 2 weeks, the dems say one thing, the reps say just the opposite!!!
THAT IDIOT MCCAIN DIDN'T ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING BUT MAKE IT WORSE!!!!
Yeah, This fight is not over..............
I think it just got nastier!!!!
Yep ... that's about it.
Frist says the nuclear option is still on the table,
and Reid says it's gone forever.
