A hint of GOP spunk

By Colin McNickle

This just in to the... newsroom: Republicans are doing some things right!

We've spilled barrels of ink over the last few weeks chastising members of the Grand Old Party...

It is widely expected that Republicans this week will use the Constitution to counter the Democrats' obstruction of President Bush's judicial nominations.

snip

And with the move, the constitutional mandate of "advice and consent" will be honored and fulfilled instead of mocked and perverted. Democrats were exposed for what they are -- reprobates of the republic -- when they refused the Republicans' offer of 100 hours of floor debate.

snip

Over in the House, Republicans finally are exposing the Democrats' "legislative plan" -- opposing anything proposed by Republicans. And rightly centered in their cross-hairs is Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California.

"You have to have a plan in order to be a leader," Ron Bonjean, spokesman for Speaker Dennis Hastert, told Roll Call. "She doesn't have one and that's what we're trying to point out."

And they're doing a very good job of it.

snip

Equally effective has been the GOP strategy that, more and more, is exposing the ethics "case" against House Majority Leader Tom DeLay as the smear that it is. ... if Mr. DeLay's activity is to come under Ethics Committee scrutiny, shouldn't that of Democrats whose travel raised the exact same (if not worse) questions?

snip

Republicans have done an excellent job in showcasing Pelosi's naked hypocrisy.

snip

Reminded great social commentator R.G. Ingersoll in an 1876 speech: "The Republican Party is the first party that was not founded on some compromise with the Devil. It is the first party of pure, square, honest principles: the first one."

Wiser words never were spoken. Wise Republicans would heed them.

decide the fate of the filibuster rules change. Contact these individual senators,
urging each to FULLY SUPPORT THE FILIBUSTERING RULES CHANGE.

Even if none of these "swing" senators is your own senator, please
call them and tell them to vote for the nuclear option, aka Constitutional option.

Here is a toll-free number to reach U.S. senators: 1-877-762-8762

The Vatican under the new Pope showed more determination last week than it has for the past several decades, deposing the editor of America and forcing the Bishop of Milwaukee to announce his gay sash decision.

Maybe the Republicans will get some guts too, and follow suit. The elections of 2002 and 2004 gave them their mandate, and the Democrats sure noticed it, but the Republicans only just seem to be waking up--we hope.

For heaven's sake, don't talk it about it. You might scare it away. It's a rare sighting, in any rate.

I'm surprised Laz hasn't chimed in on this thread.

He spends Saturday nights pillow-biting with ALL his cheese-eating surrender monkey friends. Don't look for him until possibly tomorrow.

Best regards :)

REMEMBER!! HILLARY's current SCANDALS EXPOSED via FReepers.
When the DIMRATS attack Delay, hit back with Hillary's 2000 senate campaign finance $ scam. FBI has the goods on her, not Delay's miniscule hiccup of a plane ticket $.

Though in the majority, Republicans have been reluctant to lead. They'll show leadership this week by rescuing the country from the tyranny of the minority. (If by chance they don't, there will be hell to pay from a growing faction within the party.)

That's it in a nutshell. That and Bolton's nomination are going to be closely followed. They had time to go away, talk to their therapists, have a rod installed in their backs. Now I expect them ready to fight Monday morning.

Act as the Republican Majority, or don't expect to remain the Majority.

Oh, before said otherwise, I've duly noted the exhibition of spine since we raised Hell after the fiasco over Bolton's vote. It's only right to be fair and I've held back fire because of it. I've praised them for the new attitude. But I expect tangible results also. Results that I, we all, have right to expect beginning this week. Recess is over.
