May 8, 2005 Brazilians, Central Americans and others are expected to overtake Mexican nationals as the largest group of undocumented immigrants entering the Rio Grande Valley.
Although some federal authorities said the demographic shift has already happened, figures given to The Brownsville Herald this month show the number of OTM (Other Than Mexicans) immigrants detained in Deep South Texas has exploded in the last two years but remains slightly behind the number of Mexican nationals.

That's just great. With the Brazilians coming in, do you think we'll have to start printing sign in Portugese along with Spanish?

Sounds like S.Fla. exact same thing happened here. Miami has become the capital of the third world. All the corrupt leaders from central and south America have homes here and store their stolen wealth in miami banks. Corruption breeds corruption.

I thought the Mexicans had a strong force on their southern border to stop these folks from traveling through Mexico to get here.

If there is no detention space and no criminal record or other cause for concern, undocumented immigrants are released with a promise to return for an immigration court hearing. Court figures show that more than 88 percent do not return.Well, it's encouraging to find out that the federal government is twelve percent effective ... if you can believe their numbers.

And their police forces so willing to cooperate with an America they all want to get to but at the same time hate..

no criminal recordGood point. How anxious is the police force in a Mexican town to have a drunken trouble maker sent back home? And, how likely is it that the illegals use their real names when they are detained? The criminal background check is probably next to worthless.

That's just great. With the Brazilians coming in, do you think we'll have to start printing sign in Portugese along with Spanish? That's already the case in a few places in New England: everything in three languages. If I've heard right, Brazilians can also benefit from affirmative action in Massachusetts as Portuguese.
There are a lot of people in Brazil, but 1) Spanish-speakers around the world do outnumber them and have quite a head start here, and 2) South Americans who emigrate often head to Europe, so they won't all be coming here.
Still, in a few decades, Brazilians have gone from none to a real presence in some parts of New England. It has a lot to do with the Portuguese immigration that arrived generations before. If Brazilians are coming in over the Rio Grande, though, many will probably be redirected to the areas where Mexican and Central American illegals are going now.

Yes, but apparently no Homeland Security issues matter compared to allowing the stampede of north-bound illegals to continue. But we've got 'em covered in our airports! That is, if the terrorists dress up like 80 year-old white women and get wanded.
