"I live in AZ. and he absolutely won't get my vote. "

Why is this turkey still your Senator? Don't you have any republicans in that state?

I think it is deliberate that we don't see a Republican candidate, yet. That would be a sure way to make Bush a lame duck. Bush and the Republicans are working hard to get things done.
The next election can and should wait.

I vote for him over Hiliary, but I'm not supporting him for the nomination.

"I think the Republican Party will come up with someone better than McCain... anyway, there's plenty of time."

I think you hit the nail on the head here- we don't yet have an agreed-upon successor for GWB. Does anybody have any ideas/ suggestions? This is something we need to look at NOW! I think that Newt should be considered, maybe Zell if he would convert, or maybe John Cornyn. Cornyn is a long shot now.

That's no joke. He could very well accept a VP offer from Hillary.

Let's hope so! That way I can vote against both at the same time..

"On February 28 in Virginia, the home state of Moral Majority founder Jerry Falwell and Christian Coalition founder Pat Robertson, McCain launched a vicious attack on these "self-appointed leaders" of the Christian right. He called them "agents of intolerance" and described the two men as the right-wing equivalent to Louis Farrakhan and Al Sharpton."

"The next day McCain suffered major losses in Republican presidential contests in the states of Washington, Virginia and North Dakota. Exit polling showed that conservative Christians played a major role in McCain's defeat. Less than two weeks later he suspended his campaign."

Do you know why he talks that way, through clenched teeth? It's because he has the jawbone of an ass.

I guess McCain doesn`t mind flirting with death. It will be interesting to see how many people get knocked off this time when Hitlery announces her quest in 2008 for absolute power of the United States. McCain already has experience survivng plane crashes so this will be especially interesting.

Not quite that bad. But we can certainly have a better candidate than McCain.

Too much baggage, being one of the Keating Five, et al.

Perhaps so...because his stand on allowing filibusters to continue isn't going to win him any brownie points with the base voters that turnout in primaries.

Who is George Allen?

Senator from Virginia and former governor of the state. A FReeper favorite for 2008 because he is young, likeable, intelligent, and most important of all, NOT A RINO. But unfortunately, he is not nearly as well known as McCain or Guiliani. We need to change that.

To join the George Allen for President in 2008 ping list, freepmail Corin Stormhands.

The unusual fixation on McCain among some Freepers is odd. He has a good voting record and a lifetime ACU rating in the mid 80s and good on defense issues. Yet at the same time, I'll encounter a random Freeper here and there will will say something like 'I like Harold Ford, he is the kind of democrat I could live with (lifetime ACU rating of 19).

Seems to me that a guy who votes the conservative way 80%+ of the time is far preferable to a guy who votes the conservative way 20%- of the time. What do I know - it takes a certain myopia to consider McCain an enemy.

McCain's worst quality is that he is a shameless self promoter - often going his own way, apparently, just to get some publicity and news talk-show time. He isn't my preferred choice, but any GOPer or Conservative who won't support McCain in a general election over the likes of Hilly (ACU lifetime rating of 9), especially in what might be a close race, is better suited to sitting in a closet somewhere and staring at their navels.
