Sixty years after the Allied victory over fascism in Europe, Britain is still "obsessed with the Nazi period" and "ignorant" about German history after 1945, Berlin's ambassador to London has said.
Thomas Matussek said that the countries were "drifting apart" because British schoolchildren were growing up with "dangerous misunderstandings" and were not taught "what Germany is about".
Asked about Prince Harry's decision to wear a Nazi uniform to a fancy dress party, he said he could not advise a member of the Royal Family - but added: "If it were a normal teenager, I would like to create an opportunity to tell him what Germany is really about." Mr Matussek said that he was "constantly confronted in newspapers, radio and television, with lots of material about the Nazi period".
He praised the close Anglo-German relationship within the European Union and Nato, and welcomed today's VE Day celebrations as a chance for Germany to join Britain in honouring the dead.
Pete Summerton, the chairman of the Royal British Legion in Stratford-upon-Avon, said that the ambassador "has it wrong. We move on, but we don't forget".
I however, think that Norway, Sweden and Finland will be overrun.
Italy is probably safe. The rest who knows
Ha-Ha-Ha
good one there. North Pakistan.
Shouldn't Spain be Moopistan ?
"If it were a normal teenager, I would like to create an opportunity to tell him what Germany is really about."
It would be a start if someone could tell him what Britain is really about first of all...
Hey if 'Christians' are not reproducing and require immigrants for job vacancies - that can't be blamed on Islam. They should have listened to the Pope counsel against contraception, abortion and gay life styles.
To be honest, the only way to get Europeans to stop talking about the last war is for Germany to rearm and starting talking about invading other countries...!
I thought Sweden had become Swedish Arabia?
What about your side of the globe? I think North Mexico might apply.
