Paris Cafe music? I love "la musette." Have any favorites?
I wonder if libraries will soon be offering free audio book downloads. It makes sense.
I've been there but it isn't exactly inexpensive. I mean I can't figure out why a book shouldn't only cost a buck or so to download.
They'd have to fix it so the digital rights to the book expire at some point.
I am sure someone is working on that...
I use my laptop for this. If one is in bed, no need for portability.
It's a very strange feeling, though, waking up to a lucid description of the battle of Stalingrad. Spooky in a way.
A buck for an audio book? I don't think so.
Those needles weren't very sensitive. Vinyl is better than CDs not because it's old but because it has a better dynamic sound range.
I guess conceivably you could "compress" your songs at 320k (not compressed at all), and presumably the iPod could still play them. But I believe you can also use the Apple lossless format to encode (rip) the files. It's built-in to the iTunes software, which you can try for free. I have it, got it free from Apple, even though I don't have an iPod ("yet," I daresay).
Is it possible to transfer audio files from one iPod to another? If I had a certain book, couldn't I transfer it to your iPod and in exchange you transfer an audio book to mine?
It's a standard 1/8" mini headphone jack. To knock out outside noise, there are noise-cancellers (like Bose and others). They'll work fine.
Some people swap out the white earbuds so they would be targeted for theft of their iPod! It's true.
I think you'll agree that, for most people, the biggest factor in how the music will sound is the speakers/headphones that are being used, not the medium it was recorded on.
No, Apple's anti-piracy technology does not permit it.
There are non-Apple iPod-like devices with FM receivers. Creative is one brand to seek.
Another question. I just recently became aware of iPods. What kind of batteries do they use? The reason why I ask is I do a little side business supplying cell phone batteries for prices way below retail. Usually I take orders in advance for the cell phone batteries and then deliver them. It sounds like the iPods have standardized batteries. What kind are they?
Yes and no. There's a merge point between the recording medium and the broadcast medium. There are speakers poor enough that you can't tell the difference between LPs and CDs, those should be thrown out. With speakers that are actually worthy of the electricity to run them there is a marked difference in the quality of LPs and CDs, now a good mixing board can fix a lot of it but there will still be something. This is, again, especially true of the early CDs which had a tinny quality kind of like non-Dolbied cassettes, but even with the modern CDs the sound tends to be thinner than LPs if your equipment is good enough to give the full depth of sound.
If the audiobooks are on CD, you can rip them yourselves, you know....

If you can become skilled in installing them, I suspect you can make a tidy sum on each.
iPod batteries are factory installed. Apple charges $99 to replace them. In reality, by the time they die in 2 to 3 years, the device will be obsolete and you'll want something else anyway.
