Yeah, my neighbor just got one. He said you can't even test drive one because they sell so fast they don't have any of them on the lot.
He seems to think he'll get 60 mpg with it. I'm skeptical.

Well, if he modifies it to plug into a wall outlet he'll get even better. ;) Otherwise, it's an electric that gets it's juice by burning gasoline in the gas engine. The only thing I am aware of that makes hybrids even remotely interesting is that they use normally wasted kinetic energy when braking to recharge the battery. That may have some promise in future products, but buying a Hybrid now is like buying the first color tv - and the blurry round tube and exorbitant price was only PART of the problem.
For what it's worth.
I'm not skeptical, this guy has bought the Kool-Aid, and is headed for a phenomenal 40 mpg. a number easily beaten by a Jetta TDI a far better and less expensive alternative, and a more reasonable ride without the risk of very expensive battery replacement.
