But the general public doesn't usually link the sins of the son with the shortcomings of his upbringing. De La Fuente, too, should survive. After missing a council meeting and a few days at work, he was back in the office Thursday, ready to move forward.

Oh, my! After the LE delayed telling him the charges, he missed a whole meeting of the council. What a survivor! Now, how about a story about the victims and how they're coping? Anyone want to bet sonny boy has been up to no good for years and has only now been caught? Wonder if Daddy hadn't flaunted his own law breaking life and had been around a bit more to raise his son, the streets would be safer.

Well, of course I would feel sorry for this father, but the entire tone of the article is a big turn off. Si Senor, it would have been better for our country if you and your jackal son had never snuck in here.

I for one, and I'm sure most of us here on FR actually feel most sympathy for the women who were attacked by his vicious, criminal son. The auther couldn't seem to care less about either one! You should have included a barf-alert on this one. Where to begin? I'll just quote this bit:

"Despite De La Fuente's deep despair, his political career is not finished, if history is a guide.

The Kennedy family -- about as close to royalty as there is in America -- has survived multiple scandals, including the case of William Kennedy Smith, who in December 1991 was acquitted of raping a woman on a Florida beach."

As long as the rapists, fathers of rapists, uncles and cousins of rapists, are LIBERAL DEMOCRATS, this author is happy, delighted that they remain in power.

This article is a textbook example of media bias. It is reminiscent of the article the NY Times ran in the Wm. Kennedy Smith case, where they smeared the accuser, going so far as to print her name. That really shocked everybody, but they got away with it and the bum, Smith, got away with his crime.

...as any decent parent would be.

Any reason to classify him as a decent parent? Do we know if he has gotten his son out of trouble before? Is the "shock" having his son caught or maybe just the seriousness of the charge? Maybe some enterprising reporter will let us know.

You shouldn't take my word about this jerk. Here's his own bio: Ignacio El Mexicano in his own words

The Big Lie:
"He immigrated to California at the age of 21 and subsequently became an American citizen" -- he did no such thing. He admits now that he broke into the country -- and either must have been amnestied or is still an illegal. And note that if his story is true, it's like I said: 33 to 35 years ago, not 40. He was 21, knew damn good and well what he was doing. An American would have ended up with a record for life. This creep ends up with a) U.S. citizenship and b) oversight of the budget of the city of Oakland, California!! International crime pays, if you're from Mexico City.

How he undermined the American character of the city:
"Among his proudest accomplishments is authorship of the City's Hire Oakland policies that expand employment and small business opportunities for Oakland residents and the City’s Equal Access policy – the first of its kind in the country – that provides Oakland’s diverse population with multi-lingual information about city services" -- this was a mandate by the city to hire Spanish speakers (no English required of them; guess who he wants to have taxpayer jobs?).

I rest my case. De La Fuente is a class A criminal: a man of enormous hubris who believes that he is not only above the law, but that if he is cunning and venal enough, he can scheme his way into making the laws.

He has no business either being in the country or much less running a major American city.

And one last: note that he was 21 in 1970. Americans were being drafted then. Right there in Oakland at the induction center. Big riots, lots of controversy. Did this guy register? Even illegal aliens are required to register. But he knew he wasn't on the radar, so he didn't (do we even know that his name is "De La Fuente"? How? Based on what birth certificate?). And watched the poor dumb American schleps get dragged off to a war that he knew he could evade. One more Federal Felony this creep committed.

And you want to give this guy a pass?!

Well according to everyone here, he's the type of politican that the media will cover for. If his son has gotten in trouble before, it would have to be a FReeper to dig up the dirt.

You're lucky that you've never gotten a shocking phone call or visit regarding your child. I expressed some sympathy as a parent.

I have no idea who Fuentes is, so thanks for the info. I gave him a pass for being here for 40 years and becoming an active citizen. I had no idea how *active* he apparently is.

I was commenting on his personal problems, but was taken to task for that also.
