Congressman Shays is Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats and International Relations.........whew!
I agree that Henry Hyde has nothing to gain and nothing to lose....I hope he knows we've placed our faith in him.
I just heard what Volcker said again on Fox News; he was implying that Parton had immunity extended from the U.N.!!!
Now why would an independant investigator have that?
BUMP! BUMP! BUMP!
Volcker has begun his battle re: the subpoenas with that statement. I'll bet Goldstein will be typing Court filings all weekend.....the only uncertainty is whether they will finl in the Hague or D.C. Fed Court.
This is do or die for the globalists and the UN, I think.
This may have been referenced - I haven't read all the replys. For the record, from
http://www.changingworldviews.com/GuestCommentaries/HowardNemeriovArticle3.htm (under the heading "Twice Damned" by Howard Nemerov, Author and Writer, ChronWatch.com)
"When the corruption was brought to their attention, the UN stonewalled. Perhaps the most interesting revelation was that Marc Rich, the greatest tax evader in the history of our country, who was pardoned by Bill Clinton, wanted in on the program. (16) One of the players in the program was Cotecna, based in Switzerland, where Rich now resides. Even after problems began surfacing, the UN signed a new contract with Contecna. (17)"
I'm listening to Volcker's earlier press conference right now and I'm just speechless. In one of his answers regarding immunity he says it's there to protect the institution...the UN. This about sums up why I don't trust his investigation. He wants to protect the United Nations which makes me believe he is trying to manage an outcome that does just that, even at the expense of the entire truth.
Anyway, it is difficult to follow him because half the time he was referring to immunity when he meant confidentiality. The point of the immunity for the investigators though is to protect them from the action of any government, such as a subpoena issued by a Congressional committee.
I heard Fox say tonight that after his presser, the committee said they ain't giving them back because they were turned over according to a Congressional subpoena.
I wouldn't let them out of my sight.
Volcker, the man picked by U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan (search) to lead the investigation, publicly responded to recent congressional efforts to subpoena a former senior investigator on the Independent Inquiry Committee who thinks the panel has been too soft on Annan in its investigation.
The former investigator, Robert Parton (search), has also provided Congress with documents from the probe. In his remarks, Volcker asked Congress to return those records, which may contain information potentially harmful to Annan, sources have told FOX News.
Rep. Henry J. Hyde, R-Ill., however, refused to return the documents. Hyde, chairman of the House International Relations Committee, said he appreciated the gravity of Volcker's concerns, but that his committee is obligated to continue its own investigation.
"I consider Mr. Parton to be an honorable and courageous man who responded to a Congressional subpoena as any citizen must," said Hyde.
The evidence Parton provided to lawmakers includes audiotapes of interviews conducted with Annan, FOX News has learned. Sources had previously said that the evidence shows inconsistencies in the story Annan told investigators about his knowledge of his son Kojo's work for Cotecna, a company that won a lucrative Oil-for-Food contract.
Hyde's committee actually has the documents, not Coleman
I don't get it, immunity from what?
No, the direct involvement of Marc Rich was only casually mentioned by me in relation to possible motives for the Clintons to be actively trying to cover for their friends at the UN. Thanks for the direct reference.
Immunity from the laws of any country, including the United States. Volcker's position is that Parton could have ignored the Congressional subpoena without consequence. In Volcker's press conference he seemed to refer to two reasons for the immunity. One is the obvious, protection of individuals, the other is protection of the UN.
Transcript of Press Conference by Secretary-Generals Chef de Cabinet at United Nations Headquarters, 3 February 2005
Mr. Malloch Brown: Let me start with a statement of the Secretary-General that I am reading for him.
snip
I made clear from the outset that no one found to have broken any laws would be shielded from prosecution. I stand by that pledge. Should any findings of the inquiry give rise to criminal charges, the United Nations will cooperate with national law enforcement authorities pursuing those charges, and in the interests of justice, I will waive the diplomatic immunity of the staff member concerned.

(thankyew veddy much, Kofi)
He's certainly part of the coverup. Why else would he try to block Congressional access to these memos? Particularly after he exonerated Kofi.
