The LAPD for many years, under Chief Parker and Chief Gates, was a model for PDs across the country. Chief Parks and his predecessor were both disasters and, from what I've seen so far of Bratton there would appear to be no basis for optimism. Bratton is a liberal NY gun grabber more interested in being PC than pursuing law enforcement excellence.
The little bit of information you used to attack my post crumbles under your overall lack of information. Good of you to look up my current address in forming your response but what you don't know from my profile is that I was a resident of L.A. for three years during Gates' tenure. And, as a young person making my own way, I had little money but always had jobs. I lived in low-income areas and saw how people of all races were mistreated by the LAPD on a regular basis.
Illegal car searches were routine.
Prior to that, I lived in Boston and other areas of Massachusetts and saw police approaches to the public that were far less confrontational and insulting.
There's no pretty dress to put on the ugly pig that was the LAPD in the 1960s.
