By way of contrast, fans of the teams in the Yankees' division root for the Yankees to lose just as enthusiastically as they root for their own teams to win. ....a fairly pathetic state of affairs, and a sure indication of incurable envy.

Hah! Sure! That's why my brother-in-law, a turncoat from the Chicago White Sox of his birthplace to the MFY when he moved to New Jersey, called me up and sang "New York, New York" into my answering machine after the 2003 ALCS. Because he didn't care we lost. I've been abusing him for some time now, and when he protested, I pointed out that he started it.

You've nailed it!! The NY Yankees are the most successful sports franchise in history and those who are fans of other teams are purely GREEN with envy and actually gloat when the Yankees lose. These types of fans have no center or sense of self. They are the kind whose days are judged to be either good or bad based on whether their team wins and the Yankees lose. Even if their team loses it is ok as long as the Yankees also lose. I live in MA so I am well aware of what goes on in the minds of these losers. I said losers and I meant losers despite their incredible come back last year for which I give the players full credit. But as I said when it all happened, It would be interesting to see if they are as bad and ungracious in winning as they are in losing, As it turns out they are every bit as ungracious. The team is nothing more then a bunch of thugs who think it somehow manly to fight at the drop of a hat, scream and threaten if a pitch is even close and what about that 2 week tirade against Arod this Spring simply because he claimed he was in the gym working out while other players where having their coffee in the morning or taking their kids to school. No other team had anything to say about the comment except the paranoid Red Sox who were never mentioned in the first place.

The Yankees over the years have proved they are winners and as true winners you do not see them gloat or hot dog as the "pony up" silly RS do. The Sox have won once in 87 years while the Yankees have won 26 times. It is early May and while I have no clue what will be for them this season I will say this. You will never hear a word of complaint from anyone associated with this team. No alibi's no "if only", no "we can't catch a break" and no "we never get the close calls, a Red Sox favorite whine.

In short, the New York Yankees, win or lose are a team of class. The Boston Red Sox have a long LONG way to go to reach that level.

I suffer under no delusions: I have long maintained that any ballplayer who wants to maximize his chance of wearing a world series ring, if given a choice, would play for the Yankees – it is not even a contest. So what is your point?
