Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia spoke Thursday to an overflow crowd at the George Bush Presidential Library Center as part of the Twanna M. Powell Lecture Series. The series is an endowed program sponsored by the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation and designed to bring distinguished leaders and recognized experts to the Texas A&M campus to speak regarding major public policy issues and related topics.

Is he saying that diversity is not a legitimate interest of the federal government since it is not mentioned in the Constitution? That will not make the Bush crowd happy.

A living Constitution would be the death of the Republic.

The reason the Constitution should not be messed with is that it addresses the weaknesses, quirks, and ambitions of human nature, which hasn't changed since we arrived.

Didn't Pope John Paul II and doesn't Pope Benedict XVI say something similar about the Bible when it speaks on subjects such as homosexuality and other topics recently in the news?

Just asking.

If he believes what he is saying, he really screwed up on the Earls case.

“The Constitution is not a living document. It’s a legal document, and legal documents do not change.”
This isn't going to be well received in liberal land.

For that matter, there are some right here at FR who believe that the Constitution is a living document who won't receive this well either.
It's already out there in their posts, saved forever, for those who care to look.

Going to have to remember that line..."It’s a legal document, and legal documents do not change." Scalia
