Yes that's what I meant, walking down the street and a cop arbitrarily stops and asks you for your "papers" and a national id is required or else. That is something no way I could support nor would most Americans. I don't see this legislation doing that.

Planes hijacked by terrorists? Have the feds take over airline security and hassle every American who dares take a flight.

Illegal immigration? Have the feds take over the DMV and hassle every American who wants to drive.

No. First of all, there are not that many cops in the U.S., not like here in Panama. (My cultural shock when I go to the State is always not seeing any cops around since we have cops everywhere here.) Heck, in the States they can't stop you if you look like an illegal (a Mara Salvatrucha yes). There is nothing to worry about in this area. Business deals and car infractions will most likely be another thing.
