I have lots of family in NJ. My perception is that they don't think about politics very much at all. They are too busy with engagement parties, showers, shopping at Bed Bath and Beyond, planning barbecues for their weekends, comparing real estate prices . . . Around the time of the election they read the papers--what there is in the local rags, anyway--to have a few sound bites to toss around at the barbecue.

Someone actually said to me in 2001, "McGreevey is Catholic and Schundler is Jewish, so I'm voting for McGreevey." It's a sad, sad world over there.

Firebrand, you have described life in New Jersey very well.

NJ has all types- including those you so aptly described.

NJ has other types as well-in the New Brunswick and Jersey City area- enraged jihadi's salivating over the next hit on the US. Actively plotting.

(PS) Bed Bath and Beyond has always captivated me....go in to buy a pillow case....come out with.......
