The professor is an idiot. The Articles of Confederation were defunct with the institution of the Constitution of the United States of America. Only Texas has any sort of claim to a right to secede.
Here's a thought if they think this is Mexican land, maybe Vincente would like to cough up the money for the operating budgets of those states, when he does, we'll talk about "seceding", maybe the states can bill him on that basis
am I right but didn't Mexico start a war and lose it,
hey don't do the crime if you can't do the time
No, we don't. Texas has a pretty good argument (if it wants) that it was never validly admitted to the Union, but it has no special rights to secede if it was.
"Only Texas has any sort of claim to a right to secede."
I would think California would also since it was an independant nation for, I believe, 3 days before we joined the US, the Republic of California.
It was never US teritory before joining the US.

If Texas secedes, I'm moving there asap.
I agree with you, partially. The Articles of Confederation ARE defunct. In actuality, the Articles of Confederation REPEATEDLY DENIED the right of secession.
However, the Founding Fathers, who were SECESSIONISTS, realized their folly with the articles, and eliminated the clauses outlawing secession from the US Constitution.
And you may note that they dared NOT call the US a "Perpetual Union" again!!!!
