Kerry's expenses: That's the tickets

By Andrew Miga

Wednesday, May 4, 2005 - Updated: 08:36 AM EST

WASHINGTON - Sen. John F. Kerry tapped campaign funds for Red Sox tickets and to pay nearly $300 in overdue Boston parking tickets in March, records show.

Kerry's Senate campaign committee wrote a $287 check to the City of Boston Parking Clerk on March 31, 2005. The Bay State senator listed ``travel expense'' as the purpose for the expenditure.

Kerry leased a car for campaign-related travel in Massachusetts that was cited for about a half-dozen parking tickets in Boston.

Most of the tickets were issued in October and November 2003 and not paid until more than 15 months later in March 2005 after accruing penalty fees.

``They were leftover tickets we only found out about when we closed out the lease,'' Kerry spokeswoman Jenny Backus said. ``The car was used for the Senate campaign by staffers and volunteers.''

Kerry, meanwhile, used presidential campaign funds for a $3,150 tab for Boston Red Sox tickets in July when he threw out the first pitch at Fenway Park before the Democratic National Convention.

A Federal Election Commission spokesman said congressmen are entitled to pay for parking tickets and other expenses from their campaign funds as long as they were ``campaign-related.''

Other members of the Bay State congressional delegation also reported some novel spending this year.

U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-South Boston) spent $1,231 on makeup services during a two-week stretch in March, according to his most recent FEC report.

``Congresssman Lynch had a pretty intensive round of TV interviews due to the baseball steroid hearings, the Big Dig hearings and his Iraq trip,'' Lynch spokesman Matt Ferraguto said.

The REALLY SCARY part is how many USEFUL IDIOTS in this country voted for this pile of typical far-left excrement, just because he wears the DEMO-RAT label. He could have been JOSEPH STALIN -- makes no difference to the liberal zombies.

It further illustrates that at his core, Kerry is nothing but stingy and cheap. Sounds like the FEC says the use of campaign funds to pay parking tickets is OK, but not paying for 15 months?? Where is the civic responsibility in that?

Another classic example of media bias. If this were a high profile Republican, the news coverage would be relentless.

Oh well, at least Drudge picked it up....

Kerry thinks the rules apply to other people. Although this is a small violation, it's telling about his core sense of responsibility.

And it fits right in with the way he treats the "little" people.

On a side note, someone asked me yesterday if he'd had a facelift, beyond his usual botox. I haven't seen him in some time but they said the diff in his face was striking.

That's funny. They charged him to throw out the first pitch! Maybe it was so lame.

Wanna bet that "car" was a gas guzzling SUV ??

I assume Tom Tancredo will call for him to step down while this is being investigated.

I don't see anything here.

Kerry and his staff going to a Red Socks game to throw out the first pitch was a campaign event so it is perfectly reasonable for it to be paid by the campaign.

Same with the parking tickets. If the vehicle is being used for the campaign, the tickets should be paid by the campaign.

The only issue that might reflect on Kerry negatively is that the tickets weren't paid for 15 months. However, if the car was used by multiple people I can see where they may just throw the ticket away instead of showing it to their boss. I find their explanation reasonable.

Kerry's a big enough dork as it is. We don't need to make up reasons to dislike him.

Well, although I don't like how Kerry abused the system, I can understand paying the campaign-time parking tickets with campaign money. But the baseball ticket at $3,000? That's over the line, and stupid. He didn't have the common sense and self respect to expect a gratuitous ticket?
