Son of Oakland City Councilman Tied to Second Rape Source: kcbs Publication date: 2005-05-03
(KCBS) - Ignacio De La Fuente, Jr. was charged with two counts of forcible rape during his arraignment Tuesday.
The thirty-one year old turned himself in last Friday in connection with the sexual assault of a 15-year old girl.
KCBS reporter Bob Melrose said courtroom observers were surprised to learn of the second sexual assault charge during today's court appearance.
The judge issued a restraining order against De La Fuente, Jr. for two different women.
The Oakland Tribune reports that the second charge he now faces relates to a sexual assault against a 21-year old girl, and that both attacks occurred in his truck.
The judge also imposed a gag order on the case, prohibiting attorneys from commenting on the proceedings.
Oakland City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente, Sr. attended the hearing along with his wife and daughter.
"We love our son and hope that everything comes out alright at the end," De La Fuente said. "We'll see."
The younger De La Fuente is still being held without bail. A bail hearing is set for Friday.
Anyone care to take a stab at his party affiliation.
