When I was going through infantry training at Ft Lewis, Wash., circa 1967, one of the trainers was a grizzled old sergeant who had been in the Green Berets. The story on him was that he'd been booted out of Viet Nam (4th or 5th tour)by the Commanding General of Viet Nam because he'd cut the heads off of several NVA regular troops and hoisted them on wooden pikes. The heads were placed in a circle around the green beenie position. This perimeter was large enough to keep the NVA from counter-attacking because of their own superstitions. Obviously, it was an effective tactic. Too bad PC reared it's ugly head even back in 1965 or 66. Needless to say, the trainees I was with all paid close attention to what he was teaching us.
Been to an ROC FSB ONCE...nasty place with the same philosophy
